I tried to play FM2, and quit after 1 battle. It's such a slow game compared to FM3 and maybe even FM1!

no wonder FM3 is one of the better titles of the series.

Have you ever fired a handgun shot on foot at an enemy wanzer, and had Eject occur? Shit's hilarious.

FM3 had dogshit story at the beginning and the gameplay was mediocre compared to the big guns of the genre. No wonder this series died.

well fuck that series then because FM3 couldn't get duller if you replaced all text with the yellow pages.

I didnt get past the opening cutscene, that translation broke the audio and its incomplete too.

It’s is a contraction for it is or it has.
Its indicates possessive.

if you don't have fun playing those genres, you're playing them wrong.

>want to keep playing the SRW series
>but at the same time I want to replay the ones I already beaten to do different routes and use different units
dilemma

Actually, you have to play them way wrong to have fun with them. Don't get me wrong, I've been playing both since late 80s. But both genres are extremely boring if you just let the games direct your playstyle.

What are some SRPGs with
>No free battles / grinding allowed
>Minimal RNG OR it has minimal impact
>Strategy trumps stats, stats only have a small but meaningful impact on damage and other parameters

Bonus:
>Elevation

I can only think of a handful and none of them are retro.

Just Breed. It is one of the few where your group levels up at the same time.

Literally the solution to "turnbased JRPGs are boring!" is "grind less and actually learn to use your skills." The solution to "beat em ups are boring!" is "aim for 1CC and learn to actually play."

I fucked up and Tactics Ogre was one of my first tactics experiences, almost every game since has felt worse.

The games direct you to play them wrong, and that's become a feature of both genres. Strategies explicitly direct you to grind and beat'em ups taught you to coin-feed, which is by far the worst way to experience either genre, but it's the default one. You normally learn not to do that after you've already experienced all of the major games in both genres. Too bad.

Vandal Hearts is kind of cool. But also kind of boring.

This is a good genre if you just want to press buttons and win the game without having to think too much.

Have you tried Vandal Hearts?

>> No.5648549

I like a lot of srpgs, but the ones I tend to prefer are the "bad" ones like fire emblem. Sometimes it takes a couple self-imposed restrictions to get the right balance but essentially I treat the game as one big puzzle and try to find the best solution. Since the maps have a lot going on they end up involving considerable variation in tactics.

You ever try the Langrisser series? Mainly Der Langrisser\IV. It has a similar rock, paper, scissor system and features both a branching class system and branching scenario system. You also choose what units you bring with you per map. Each general(story character) has a bunch of goons they can control but you could pick 4 archers, 3 soldiers and a ballista if you wanted.

So if you decide to go really heavy on water-faring units then some of the maps you play on will feel very different tactically. Some maps are short but I recall some being quite long, kind of like FE4 where you have 4 different factions all enter the map at different times.

>>5648580
Yeah langrisser is pretty cool, unfortunately I haven't figured out the right way to "fix" the lack of challenge yet. So Landius' ranged troops just destroy anything, regardless of unit type.
The maps feel longer than they should be because there's a ton of mercenary units you need to move around (though if you set the troops to 'defense' AI they can follow you around the map on their own).

Anyone ever play Power Dolls or CRW Metal Jacket? The were front mission style game on the PC-98.

Yeah. I tried playing FM2 but between the motherfucking slow-ass battles (even with the cinematic mode turned off) and broken translation I have to refer to a notepad file to understand, it became too much.
Is FM3 an improvement?
I already beat FM1 and it was pretty okay.
