So was anyone here unlucky enough to have a CD-i? Obviously they're infamous on the internet but I've never met anyone who owned one. My brother has told me he was pretty close to getting one but didn't for some reason.

For the people who owned one: Was it really that bad? Why did you decide to get it? Did you play the CD-i Zelda games and what did you think of them at the time?

I guess these questions could apply to anyone who has owned a poorly received console so feel free to join in.

I had/still have a CD-i - I didn't think it was that bad then and I still don't now.
Wand of Gamelon was surprisingly good

What some good games for the system?

so the original gravis gamepad is essentially just the CD-i gamepad?

The only games I have for the Cd-i are

Dragon's Lair
Dragon's Lair 2
Space Ace
Faces of Evil
Wand of Gamelon
Hotel Mario

They're all worth a play- Dragon's Lair and Space Ace especially

Six good games makes for a pretty bad system in my opinion. Especially when three of them are proto-Heavy Rains.

but they are just scaled down versions of the laser disc versions, so you might as well just play those on MAME or something

And those 3 are the best there.

There are probably other good games for the CD-i, but sellers of games are so far and few between.

True. Thankfully I also have the Sega CD versions of them.
Is there a difference between the Sega CD versions and the original arcade versions?

the resolution is scaled down massively to fit on a CD

I'm looking at a list of CD-i games, and there are some good games in there, but the thing almost all of the games for the system are ports of PC and Laser Disc arcade games, so the system is kinda pointless in this age anyhow

you know, I find it extremely ironic that this is pretty much the only active thread right now that hasn't been hit by a huge wave or trolls, since this is usually the type of thread trolls target

I had one of those. I'd unscrew the joystick bit and chew on it while I played games.
I was looking at CD-i's the other day and noticed it was the same as well.

>> No.564942

Never had a CDi but I did have its close competitor, the CDTV which was a better system as it ran Amiga games too.

No. But I was the unfortunate owner of an Atari Jaguar and an HDDVD player.

Was it "really that bad"? No it wasn't a bad system. The CD-i and the CDTV were just aimed at a market that didn't emerge, turned out the market for a living room multimedia box which displayed enyclopedias and quiz CDs etc wasn't that big.

Same with the set-top-box revolution that was expected to kick in in the mid 90s, didn't take off then as the tech wasn't ready.

The CD-i (and CDTV) were fine machines, just computer users didn't want them, and they were marketed as not being computers for customers that didn't really understand what they were.

The Jaguar was fine. stfu.

The Sega CD encoding is horrible. Actually there were versions in just one cd that are as good as the one on arcades, but they came out later and only on PC.

Sega CD displays them in 61 colors, at half the resolution. There is NO FMV game on the Sega CD that is not better on a different platform, except arguably Road Avenger. Which has better music and clearer prompts.
