Original or DX?

>> No.5620862

DX has bonus content for GBC and can be played on an original GB.

>> No.5620865

>>5620853
DX for the sake of bugfixes, some nice touches, comfy cameramouse and colors.
DX is superior in every way

>> No.5620871

no reason to play the original unless you are speedrunning or something

>> No.5620873

Original for nostalgia purposes. Otherwise DX.

>> No.5621005

>>5620853
I would say DX played on a regular GB is the best compromise, but DX fucked up the secret ending so fuck that version.

>> No.5621013

>>5621005
IIRC if you play DX on an original Game Boy you get the original secret ending

You can't use B to skip the pop up text for rocks and power-ups in the DX version, but you can in the original.

DX is much easier, more tedious, and has changed graphics (not just added colors). Original.

>> No.5621131

What makes DX easier and more tedious?

>> No.5621439

Bosses take less hits to kill and move more slowly (eg, the Bottle Grotto boss who was considered "hard" in the pre-OoT era), and there is way more unavoidable instructional dialogue (eg, every fucking time you touch a rock without the Power Bracelet equipped, which ends in the original once you simply acquire the PB). I still like DX, though, but it's really designed for fans of the original, despite those flaws.

>there is way more unavoidable instructional dialogue (eg, every fucking time you touch a rock without the Power Bracelet equipped, which ends in the original once you simply acquire the PB)
The message always goes away after getting the bracelet in the DX version.

>> No.5621550

>>5621540
There's something else like that in it, then. It's been a while since I played through it, admittedly, but I'll do that again soon and be ready with more exact details for next thread.

>> No.5621556

>>5621540
I think the other anon had it right. If you have the bracelet equipped then the message won't appear. But put it back in the inventory and it will come back.

>> No.5621565

>>5621556
I've had the DX version, and I know for a fact that the message vanishes forever once you get the bracelet, just like the original game. He's probably thinking of other obstacles like the cracked blocks and the ones you have to crush with the Pegasus Boots, which have hint messages that never vanish.

>> No.5621606

Original. The colors don't look that good, seems like it was kind of a cash-in when the gbc came out

This and with the restoration hack while you're at it.

this. This becomes especially apparent after playing the Oracle games and seeing their good palettes

>cash-in for the gbc's launch
Probably even more so a cash-in for OoT players to be convinced to buy a GBC, all three of these products being released in 1998.

Who else hated how the power triangle and power acorn ruin the mood of the game?

They can be handy earlier in the game when you have low health, but yeah by the end of the game I just avoid them.

I'm not a fan of gbc games and their gaudy colors honestly. DX is slower too.

What are you smoking? The palette is oversaturated in the Oracle games.

Not since yours. Just because you didn't play the game until after Ocarina of Time doesn't mean that your perspective is even close to accurate.

Call me a fag but I only played DX

Should I play the original now? Is there any romhack I should look for or is it just fine the way it is?

No problem in only playing one or the other. DX faggotry is when a person presumes the game is better (or is the exact same in tone) simply because muh color, which is rampant in this thread.

>> No.5622439

>>5622279
The original game is still easy enough to beat without any modifications. You have a "save anytime" feature (press all face buttons to bring up "Save and Quit" menu), so be sure to use it often.

I'd say DX if only because the Color Dungeon adds more game play. The popup messages never bothered me, and the color is appreciated even if it wasn't meant for the game.

Somehow you managed to have even shittier taste than DXfags.

>> No.5622923

The DX bonus content breaks the game, which is already too easy on its own. And the colorization uses some really bizarre palette choices that are there simply to demonstrate the GBC's color mixing capabilities.

In all honesty, I think the DX version is completely pointless and you're not missing out on a single thing by playing the original version instead. And I'm saying this as someone who's completed both versions multiple times.

>> No.5623010

>>5622923
>The DX bonus content breaks the game
The only game-breaker I know of is taking the Red Mail from the Color Dungeon.

>> No.5623020

>>5623010

Both of the bonus dungeon rewards break the game, and some of the enemies in the DX version are given less health on top of that.

>> No.5623034

>>5623020
I'll still take the Blue Mail for not trivializing the combat completely. It's already impossible to die in the normal game past Level 2 anyway.
