also come to think about it Vargas would have been an acceptable character to find in the Zone Eaters in the WoR too in place of Gogo. i like the mimic but double monkery would have been cool also, especially if it allowed for something like TwinCast from FF4. why not TwinBlitz? have Sabin & Vargas break the game even further, it's not like it really matters all that much

he needed a path to redemption. and perhaps a subterranean city of cave bears living in their own little world with shops and everything, being occasionally terrorized by pugs/tonberries and needing a strict martial arts code. friendly relations with the Moogles, and maybe yetis like Umaro also share a common language

there was a whole plotline just waiting there, that perhaps Vargas now would have to win back the trust of the bear community after his disastrous defeat at the hands of Sabin. they respected him, because he learned their ways, and they were like the only friends he ever had. but he betrayed them. so he must learn the blitzes once again and participate in one of their martial arts tournaments to win back their respect

such a misunderstood creature. even the name is provocative: the Ipooh, or - iPooh? there was an app for what Vargas needed, and what he needed was a Cobra Kai band composed entirely of bears who could be talked into racketeering, extortion, and other small-scale crimes. in Zozo we can imagine this kind of thing happens all the time, but these were bears who went afoul from the Old Ways and the Elders of the Cave, which is what happens when you get mixed up with people: people are not to be trusted. but if you encountered him in that world the fact that the bears trust hi and honor loyalty and courage would be enough to convince the party that Vargas wasn't all that bad, he just had an inferiority complex w/Sabin and the martial arts power brought out his dark side. or whatever. shit, didn't they have a Rat Tail in FF1? go and collect a Yeti Tail from Umaro's tribe up in the mountains, whatever. bring honor to the Cave Bears! and then sock it to Kefka, on their behalf.

the whole thing writes itself really. just an encouraging little side-quest to happen somewhere in WoR with a bonus easter-egg character to unlock as a perk. Bear Knuckle!

Terra is unquestionably the MC until WoR. After that it switches to Celes for a bit, but eventually returns to Terra.

So yeah, Terra is THE MC. Others get some spotlight, but the whole game quite literally revolves around Terra.

Faggot, the game's protagonists are Terra AND Celes as each of them shoulder half of the plot AND each of them have what the other lacks and wish for something the other one already has.

Terra is the emotional and vulnerable natural magic user who has no idea about her place in the world and longs for knowing what love is, while Celes is the cold and efficient artificial magic user who knows perfectly what is her place and lot in life and tries her best to supress love because she thinks it will interfere with her mission.
On the second half of the game both characters discover and embrace what each one lacks, becoming two versions of the same character to represent how despite their differences, humans and espers are basically the same.
