It seems many people loved Earthbound because of its setting and I'm definitely one of them. I just can't stand all this magical-medieval dwarf and forest bullshit after years of gaming anymore. I'm looking for RPGs on any retro platform that are set in anything but what I've mentioned before. It can be a modern city, a future city, prehistoric times, ancient times, world war II times, completely fictional abstract times - whatever. Show me your power and prove that you know some obscure titles.

This might be fantasy. But it's set in a pretty historically accurate fantasy of the Holy Roman Empire in the 1400s. There's still dwarves and kobolds and Dragons. But Witches are burnt to the stake. Baphomet is taking over the world, Templars are heretics and Alchemists and Priests are your only salvation. Priests can pray to Saints for help, Alchemists can use formulas and throw potions to fuck around with enemies. Etc. It's a good game. I recommend it. It still has the "magical medieval dwarf and forest" thing. But it's a unique spin on it.

I never could. I'll still play a fantasy RPG though if it's THAT great (like Ultima or Gothic), but I unless it's just an utterly extraordinary game I can't get into that style of content.
