Hello people, GideonZhi, 730, and I have been working on translating this sfc game called Gokinjou Boukentai and we are currently at a standstill. In the meantime I am collecting info on the game. Does anyone happen to have access to information on the game? Such as manuals, comics, advertisements etc. It'll be much appreciated and would help gain motivation for the project

AeonGenesis has way too much shit in its backlog. If Gideon wants to be taken seriously, he needs to follow through with his committments, not reserve dozens of games, make 10% of progress in each of them, and then suspend progress on them indefinitely. That's not fair to anyone.

You're wasting your time. People have worked their asses off to provide Gideon with fully translated scripts, only for him to renege on those projects and put them on permanent hiatus.

The guy is a major douche. It's not just the fact that he puts so many things on hiatus, but the prevailing attitude among translators that no one else is allowed to work on translating a game if someone else has already taken it up. Since Gideon has dozens of works on reserve, no other groups want to take a shot at translating them because of the backlash it might generate.

Why are you at a standstill? Do you not know how to translate something? Do you need to reference outside material in order to be certain about a line or something? If it's one of these, I'd be glad to lend a hand, I'm N1 certified and then some.
Or are your issues technical?

Can you, in clear terms, explain how exactly is this project stalled?

Is Gideon waiting for you to translate text?
Are you waiting for him to insert parts of your translation, or extract new parts for you to translate?
Are you being "unreasonable" by making demands that require more hacking work on his part (such as proportional fonts, extending some parts, romhacking extravaganza like auto wrapping text and bold/italic kerned fonts, etc) and now you feel guilty about this? (if true you shouldn't feel guilty btw, but you also should learn to compromise if push comes to shove and this is going nowhere)

As long as you have your finished translations handy tidy and organized, you may (at the risk of pissing him off, but whatever, he often isn't as considerate to his translators and some projects take 15 years to release) get someone else to do it. Just don't involve Kotaku to try and shame him for not answering like with Mizzurna Falls, that actually made that situation worse. I'm not saying you shouldn't get someone else to do it, but do it discreetly.

Why does anyone continue to work with this guy? I'm not saying Gideon is incompetent, but he's by no means the best ROM hacker around. Anyone can get on Gideon's level fairly quickly just by following some of the documentation available on RHDN. The problem is that Gideon doesn't seem to have a sufficient amount of time to invest in his projects, which begs the question of why he puts so many games on reserve in the first place. And why does Nightcrawler continue to tolerate this kind of behavior from him? Other hackers have been scolded in the past for announcing new projects when they already had a multitude of inactive ones on the backburner.

you're thinking of another game by the same company, maka maka. idea no hi is a decent game, and certainly worth a look for anyone who's starved for jrpgs. it's not perfect, but it has a pretty good story and some weird little subsystems that make it fun enough. it's also got some really funny moments and dialogue.
