Life long C64 gamer here. Curious how many of you play Commodore games.

What are your favorites. Just looking for something in my archive that I may not have played yet.

Also, fans of the Amiga 500 are welcomed as well. Love that system.

I'm actually an American. The C64 was actually kind of big over here back in the day. More people had a C64 than an Apple, IBM or Atari computer. Mostly because the C64 was more affordable and game piracy for that system was everywhere.

Yeah, the Commodore Amiga did terribly on America, but the Commodore 64 did okay there and better on Britain, it was particularly big in Germany though.

Still, a lot of countries had their favorite big computers, France went for the Amstrad CPC, Japan for the MSX, the UK for the ZX Spectrum, Germany for the C64, America for the Apple II and the Atari computers...kinda popular in a few places i think, second place in a lot of places that aren't the UK if i recally correctly, they had some great computers with great games, but after the Atari ST failed to beat the Amiga and PC's, Atari just stopped.

apple never outsold commodore c64 either. could not compete. this is why the c64 still remains the best selling computer of all time. apple fans really can't stand the fact that the c64 still has a large and active community where as the 8bit apple communities are tiny, release hardly anything per year and just cry themselves to sleep, later fighting haunting visions of jack tramiel and satania laughing at them in their sad itoddler dreams. it's incredibly glorious.

My high school’s computer lab, as well as random classrooms around campus had Apple //es (the electronics lab had a Darth Vader.) Later replaced by PS/2s.
Intermediate school, we had Commodores, soon replaced with TRS/80s. lol
My elementary school math class had a lone TI99/4A, replaced by a pair of //es, which later multiplied to a half dozen.

My circle of computer nerd friends were mostly C64 users. Interestingly all the non computer nerd people I knew who had computers mostly had Apple //es … I was their game supplier.

Commodore was run by a bunch of incompetent people after a while, seriously, a lot of computers that were just a slightly better C64 at a time where it was outdated, refusing to invest in new technology or upgrading the Amiga with such things as a CD-Rom drive for way too long.

And let's not forget the consoles like the C64 GS, a Commodore 64 console released after the Genesis had come out with a game that didn't work because it required a keyboard being packed in.

Seriously, when Commodore shut down, there was a reason why employees made effigies of Commodore executives and filmed themselves burning those and even peeing on them, the CEO and other executives were just amazingly incompetent.

Zniggy-free c64 games that personally impressed me:

>Uridium (shmup)
>Paradroid (GOAT)
>Wizball (shmup-platformer hybrid)
>Bounder (advanced ball simulator)
>Little Computer People (life sim)
>Lazy Jones (parody, minigame comp, like a latter-day Suda51 game but British)
>Stunt Car Racer (racing game with hair-raising jumps, probably better played on Amiga though)
>The Train: Escape to Normandy (you're in a train and you escape to Normandy)
>Alter Ego (remember Real Lives, that game /v/ has an on and off relationship with? It's like that)
>Katakis, Enforcer, Armalyte (the holy trinity of the system's Gradius/R-type style shmups. Mostly free of euroshmup tropes)
>IO, Lions of the Universe (a tier below the above 3 but still pretty good)
>Laser Squad (turn-based strategy, the predecessor to X-Com)
>Supremacy (strategy, a sci-fi take on Sim City)
>Cyberdyne Warrior (action platformer, by the devs who would later make Mayhem)
>Arnie/Arnie 2 (pretty mindless but enjoyable action games, think Contra but isometric)
>Hudson Hawk (one of the many, many licensed platformers Ocean shat out, better than most)
>Deflektor (the original "rotate mirrors to manipulate a laser", I can't get that fucking Arcade Fire song out of my head when I read the title)
>Oil's Well (Pac Man but you're a snek)
>Hyber Blob (a predecessor to Lemmings in which you manipulate the level itself to guide bouncing Frank Sidebottom heads to the exit)
>Escape from Fractalus, Kornois Rift, The Eidolon (tactical-ish FPSes based off the mind blowing Fractalus engine)
>Ancipital, Get Off My Garden (SO RANDOM XD-core, fun to play regardless)

Sacred Armour of Antiriad - interesting mixture of "willyvania" (urgh) and early so called cinematic platformer
Super Pipeline 2 - charming and frantic single screen platform/puzzle game
Snare - Unusual maze/puzzle game
Navy Seals - Definitely one of Ocean's best efforts, cartridge only platform game with nice movement mechanics
Exile - Incredible open world puzzle/exploration game with realistic physics with nothing like it made before or since.
Samurai Warrior: The Battles of Usagi Yojimbo - Really intriguing simplistic fighting game/open world game hampered by clumsy controls. Crying out for a modern remake
Trapdoor - Aesthetically ugly but quite clever arcade puzzle game based on the old cartoon where you have to cook grotesque meals from monsters captured in elaborate ways for your sinister master lurking upstairs
Slicks - Decent Super Sprint clone
