Even though Yae is superior to Yui, New Age was actually a lot of fun for me. The no damage challenge runs along with the secret boss locations for bounty collection gave it a lot of replay.
The mecha bosses were absolute ass though compared to the older games.

Bouken Jidai is actually quite good for its circumstances. It's a rushed launch title for the PS2 with all characters besides Goemon cut during development, but still Konami Kobe's comeback. It led to the DS game too. An OoT clone but a better one than the New Age / Oedo Daikaiten abortions that feel closer to a chink bootleg than anything put together by a semi decent level designer (the GBA version is a torture device, no one online could muster enough patience to put together a full longplay of it, it's that bad. i never got past the first boss personally)

Konami Osaka made the SNES Goemons (and later MNSG/GGA). Nagoya made shit like Kuru Nara Koi, the second Gameboy game, Castlevania Legends, and the botched port of SotN on Saturn. And Kobe was the team behind the N64 CV's, CotM, Dynamite, PS2 Goemon, etc.

idk, it's built on the same belt scroller engine as the nes goemons (maybe 1 SNES' towns too) but unlike it doesn't have shadows so lacks proper depth feedback YET has more focus on platforming than goemon ever had.
It is gorgeous and well crafted otherwise, for sure. The MD version (a different game) beats it imho.

Why no shadows romhack for Animaniacs snes and landstalker, i wonder to this day. it's not like one more sprite would matter that much.

Yep. Apparently the one mini-game where you have to match a 3x3 grid with the same face is bugged so you have to hope you get a seed that can be solved. I think Konami Nagoya forgot to include a way to jump on the same panel you're standing on, would make the puzzle far less bullshit.

The last phase of the Impact boss is pretty hard to react on, too.
