The Spectrum was huge in the early 80s with poorfags since only posh people could afford a C64. By 1986 the economy was recovering and the price of C64s came way down so there was no reason to buy a Speccy at that point and the Amiga had taken over as the poshfag machine.

The era of bedroom coders seems to have lasted longer in Europe. After 1984 or so most American games were corporate big box products developed by a team instead of one guy and in fact you can credit Sierra with starting that trend. They were the first developer really to make big box PC games.

I think it was me?

I made a thread asking people about games or systems they just can't like or enjoy as much as they want to and i mentioned the ZX Spectrum, i was interested since i didn't grow up with it but it got the attention of Europe and had many unique stories about it, so i decided to try it(with emulation, i will admit) games such as the Miner Willy ones, or the Dizzy games, or the Ultimate games.

At the end, i didn't like the Willy or Dizzy games as much as i was hoping for, the Ultimate games aren't bad but still not as great as i was hoping for.

And well, it left me not liking to play ZX Spectrum games as much as i hoped, still like learning about it or watching videos about it's history or the developers who worked on it though, it's actually cool hearing about a side of gaming i know little about, but not one i like playing as much as i hoped.

And after making that thread, this one appeared, and then the thread about Chuckie Egg 2 making fun of Speccy gamers and such, at least it's only one or two people doing this.

I have enjoyed quite a few indie games, do people really have to deliver hours and hours of content or great graphics just to count?

As long as the game is good or fun, i don't care, besides, indie developers are the ones making sure some genres don't die.

And yes, a lot just use pixel graphics or what not to get the attention of people that are really nostalgic, but you tend to see that coming from a mile away.

Good indie developers leave you feeling like the old style of graphics was an actual design choice that complements the setting and the levels, look at ZeroRanger, the whole game revolves around pixels and a limited palette, and that game looks great in motion, because they based all the art and the game on said limits.

Pixel graphics doesn't mean being lazy, it just sadly tends to be used by some people taking advantage of nostalgia to sell games.

There's a few games like Amaurote and Sabre Wulf that originated on the Spectrum and got awful C64 ports, but that has less to do with either system's hardware and more to do with bad developers. And some 3D games like Enduro Racer, Space Harrier, Hard Drivin and the Freescape Engine shit fare better on Spectrum due to the slightly faster CPU.
