I've played an embarrassing amount of Mario Party 1 by myself. Probably on the order of 50 games. Because of this, I was born in the Party, moulded by it.

Then one day at University, a bunch of unsuspecting friends decided to play. We did 20 turns on Luigi's engine room.
By turn 10, I had 3 stars.
I asked them: "Is anyone having fun?"

Then we shut it off and I haven't played since.

I never had as much fun playing it with normies in college as I did playing them alone as a kid. I think it's much more fun to take on super hard CPUs. I would also roleplay a bit and just be all around more immersed. Getting to bowser land by myself was just as much of an achievement to me as beating him in sm64.

the ONLY person I ever met who demanded to play Mario Party was my first girlfriend's sister, who was autistic, fat, physically AND mentally disabled. She always wanted to play it with any of the younger kids around and would get super angry whenever they beat her due to pure luck, but whenever she was winning, it was 'cause she was better'. That is the ONLY person I ever met who wanted to play mario party. I will never play mario party ever again. what a horrible experience.

also, we would sometimes catch her playing mario party, by herself, in her room, against CPU opponents, and getting enraged at the CPU opponents for 'cheating'. seriously. worse game and worse fan base of any game in history.

Only people you can mario party with are other people who sort of grew up with it, in my experience.

Those times are pretty fun when they happen.

Played it alone as a kid pretty often, not a game I’d play solo now. Adding single player campaigns was a dumb move, or at least having to unlock stuff with them was.
