/vr/, which PS1 emulator is the simplest to configure?

>> No.558820

>>558802
I found that PSX is the easiest to use. It has all the plugins you need to emulate, other than the BIOS. But that's an easy find.

>> No.558831

>>558820
Thanks. I searched through a few emulation threads and while there was a ton of discussion on which was best, I couldn't find out which was easiest to use.

>> No.558862

"ease of use" and "emulator" are pretty much mutually exclusive things. The best emulators tend to be the most difficult to get set up, and the worst tend to be the easiest. It's just like with operating systems.

Use RetroArch with Mednafen's PSX core. It's not easy, but it's the best. You shouldn't settle for shit because you're lazy.

>> No.558880

But I'm terrible at configuring things. I tried to get a Saturn emulator to work today and I BSOD'd my computer.

I'm not OP but lately I've been emulating PS1 games and replaying some of the classic PS1 games like Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, and Medieval. Does anyone else have any must play PS1 games?

>>558880
Sounds like you're a bit too technologically illiterate to be messing around with something like emulation, or really anything on the level of "power user".

>> No.558926

PCSX worked for me (Macfag), only slightly diffucult was downloading BIOS separately and putting them in the BIOS folder.

does being able to run a configure a ps1 emulator really make me a "power user"

>>559083
Not necessarily, but generally people that understand how to configure and run emulators probably also know their way around a computer.

On a scale of dumb to stupid, I'd put you somewhere in the ballpark of retarded.

>> No.560347

Xebra is a bugger to start for the first time if you don't have a guide, but once you've learned how to load the bios and images, there's no settings other than controls.
Of course the trade off for the simple, faithful emulation is less graphical tweaks than epsxe, etc.

>> No.560481

psx (also knows as psxfin)
or xebra
If you already have retroarch set up you can try the mednafen psx core.

>> No.560653

psxfin is the easiest, but it has some issues, and will likely never improve.

Xebra and Mednafen are much more accurate and have amazing compatibility, but their user interfaces are a bit more obtuse. Once you have them correctly set up, however, they will serve you very well.

If you want graphical enhancements, PCSX-R is your best bet, although it uses plugins.

>> No.560672

>>558862

If you weren't a functionally retarded piece of shit, you'd know that psxfin is a good emulator that is also easy to use. You can download it and play games pretty much immediately, without having to tinker with the plugins. And no, being able to configure an emulator does not make you a better person than anyone else, and it's not fucking fun either, so try to understand why someone would want to avoid it.

>> No.560678

>>558831
you know what? you can download a "PS starter pack" at emuparadise.org with everything pre-figured. Bios is already inside too.

>> No.560692

My experience with PSX is that all I had to do was find a bios, then run the games and everything worked perfectly. I can't imagine an easier system to work with.

Yep, it's perfect until your save files all get corrupted a few months later. Okay I have no idea if that was because of the emulator itself but damnit there's no way I'm going back to it now.

So basically, most of the popular games work ok with slight glitches here and there, and a ton of games require adjustments to get them to work right, with a bunch not working at all.

So much for "it just werks". Maybe if you just want to play FFVII.

>> No.564748

Xebra. No plugins. Get BIOS. Get game. Play game.

>> No.566627

I keep seeing psx emulation threads, and still can´t understand all the hate towards epsxe. It is free, nice and had years of work.

>> No.566701

>>566627
Because it had a ton of compatibility problems that remained unfixed up until 1.8.0, not to mention it crashed pretty frequently. And even though 1.8.0 fixes many of those issues, PCSX-R already does everything ePSXe does but better, is open source, and is always being updated. I doubt you're gonna see another update to ePSXe for another year or two, as all the team's efforts are now directed toward the Android version.

Be sure to get the latest version from EmuCR, not the stable download on their home site. It's VERY outdated for some stupid reason, and is hardly better than ePSXe. The new versions are much better.

Try these settings. Try out the GTE Accuracy option at the bottom to reduce polygon jitter if you'd like. Just don't tell the resident SH purist on /vg/, because it cleans up a lot of the dithering, which he would say makes it look too bright and clean for a gritty game like Silent Hill.

>> No.567320

>>558905
Damn, you beat me to it!

Seriously though OP, it is the easiest PS1 emulator to configure. You just buy the thing, put the games in and they work. No patches, settings, .BIOS roms or any shit like that to fuck with.

Xebra, just -File-Open-OS ROM Image and point to your ps1 bios, then put these values on sound if you find crackling on some games. You only do this once.

To load the game use -File-Open-CDROM or CDROM image and -Run-Run1

Savestates are called Running Image on the -File-Open and -Save menu section.

The emulator did the key config itself with my generic playstation usb knockoff just by selecting Controller 1 on the dialog window.

Actually I came to find out thanks to a question someone in a different thread a few days ago asked that Mednafen's PSX core actually has more accurate sound emulation than Xebra.

Guess that's what happens when you make your emulator open source.

>> No.568459

>>568401
AFAIK Mednafen has the best PS1 sound emulation out of any emulator or plugin out there. It is quite possibly the most underrated emulator there is. It's so damn good, yet fucking no one knows about it because all everyone hears about is ePSXe and maybe psxfin.

That said, I mostly use PCSX-R because muh enhancements. Mednafen is great for 2D games, though.

>> No.568649

Xebra has sound issues, the author hasn't updated it in ages, it's dead at this point

psX & epsxe are shit

Mednafen's is the most accurate at the moment

PCSX-R With GPUbladesoft plugin is quite accurate & removes a lot of polygon jitter, PCSX-R also has widescreen hack as a nice bonus which works well with some games
If you want GRAPHICS, get Pete's OGL 2.9 plugin

Could you enlighten me on them?
I mean, the only "issue" i had with epsxe was that it crashed everytime i closed it, it was kinda hilarious but not a bother...

>> No.568753

Compatibility-wise, they're pretty similar, although I personally like it because of the GTE Accuracy and widescreen hack options, as well as the ability to use lilypad, which is the most robust input plugin.
