how do you guys name your characters

I just think this guy looks like a Ray.

Default names. If the name is blank by default I check online to see if the character has a canon name in other media. I am not a creative person.

Usually whatever I think fits the story best or the developers have suggested. Otherwise I'll use something funny like "Cocksucker" on a game like Pokemon.

I always use default names, but on FF7 I rename Aeris to Aerith.

I hate getting confused in games, I always want to make sure I know who they're talking about ingame.

This seems very easy to accomplish by simply using the names given to each character by the developers.

Same mostly. I don't want to take the chance of accidentally naming them the same as a fixed name character.

I always name the MC "I say", so that I can pretend that everyone talks like foghorn leghorn.

>I say, my son, you have learned well.
>The gem has been stolen, I say!
>I say, we meet at last! Your quest ends here, I say!

That's all well and good, but then I don't know who I'm controlling. If my guy is named "Me", and they say "Me is dead!" I can instantly recognize that I'm dead.

Every Ray/Raymond I’ve ever met has either been exceedingly boring, a wife beater, or old and obese, or some other combination of white guy stereotype. Definitely not a JRPG protagonist name. I’m not a custom name guy, but I’d have to go with something more youthful and/or timeless like Zach or Luke if you forced me.

If a game literally has no canon name I have no trouble choosing but you know what ticked me off? In Suikoden I named the guy after myself, but then in Suikoden II it made me feel like maybe I should have waited and named *that* guy after me. Because now my original guy, although playable, is now just sort of an afterthought.

This reminds me that I want a Looney Tunes version of a Kingdom Hearts-style game where Foghorn Leghorn is like a brawler-type class of fighter.

Based and I say pilled.

The only RPG where I routinely rename the characters from the originals are Mother and EB. Ninten and Ness are both Mikey. Ana and Paula are both Sandy. Lloyd and Jeff are both Isaac. Teddy is Teddy. Poo is Tnzin. The dog is Shmoo. Fav thing is Kaboom! Fav food is FOOD.

In SNES FF3 (IE FF6) I rename characters so the names aren't ALLCAPS cuz that's stupid. I do the same thing in Shining Force 2.

In RPGs where parties don't have set names, I name the team Unus, Zwegen, Trayas and Czork.

You’re supposed to name them after yourself so you really feel like your playing a game where you are in the role of this character.
Hence the term rocket propelled grenade
