Looking for a controller to use for emulation. I just want something with a good d-pad and no input lag.

Does this logitech controller satisfy those conditions? Any recommendations for ones that do?

Also, are these things any good:
http://www.amazon.ca/Retrolink-Saturn-Classic-Controller-White/dp/B009DG6MP4/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1367112205&sr=8-2&keywords=sega+saturn+controller

I don`t really trust 3rd party manufacturers. Would I be better off getting an adapter for official controllers? If so, where to get a reliable converter and where to get good condition 1st party controllers?

Hi OP,

I own four of the wireless version of what you have in your pic, the Logitech F710. Great controllers for emulation, and work a treat when you have bros over and you want to play some emulated vidya.

The wireless version also has rumble, which works nice if you set it up properly.

I just got 2 of these in the mail from envizage in yurp.

The feel of these controllers is fantastic, they are slightly larger than dualshocks, with a vita-like dpad.

The buttons are raised up slightly higher, and feel more responsive to the touch. The R2 and L2 have a similar style to the PS3 dualshock, i.e. they are more triggers than buttons. They have less of a range though, so they feel a bit more like buttons. I would say it is middle ground between ps2 and ps3 dualshock.

I just got them delivered to my work now, I will report back after i test the wireless link and inputs. I am hopeful, as the feel of the controller is perfect.

Do NOT use XBox Mode if you can help it. It may have an XBox mode but it's not useful at all for playing XBox games or ports on Steam. The joysticks only have two sensitivity settings (MIN and MAX) and trying to fly a plane in Just Cause 2 is practically impossible. The triggers are probably the same but I didn't play a game that utilized sensitive triggers (If JC2 did, I didn't notice). I have the Logitech Rumblepad 2 model from 2009. Input lag sucks. Even my xbox 360 third party controller has lower latency. At least when I've tested it with NES and SNES emus.

Is it possible to find a usb controller with very low latency? Every controller I've tried on every PC I own with multiple emulators there seems to be more lag than the original NES and SNES. It really fucks up my jump timing with platformers like Mario series. I'm also a twitch FPS gamer so maybe I notice it more.

The verdict is in. Speedlink Strike FX is awful.

Sad that I had to waste $40 per controller to find out but I will educate the rest of /vr/. Like I said before, the feel of these controllers is amazing. They are slightly larger than dualshocks which reduce strain on bigger hands.

HERE IS THE PROBLEM...there is a slight response time due to the wireless signal, not good for retro games. It does not happen all the time, I was able to complete turbo tunnel in Battletoads with it and I was able to beat contra without 30 lives. That is not the biggest problem though...

The DPAD, while it appears that the individual directions are un-linked, that is not the case. If you hit the 'down' arrow on the left side, it will register as 'down-left', this is a travesty for retro games. In contra it will result in your character ceasing to crouch, and move forward while aiming diagonally downward...a death sentence in a fast paced game like contra or battletoads.

Playing 3D games is OK, like Twisted Metal 2 ran fine...but why wouldn't I just use a PS2 controller with an adapter or PS3 bluetooth??

Pass on this controller. The linked DPAD(even though the design shows them as fucking unlinked) and questionable wireless communication make it ass.

As for the position, I've never had issues playing retro/xbla games with the dpad placement. This is because the molding of the 360 controller makes thumb spacing of the dpad & analog sticks equal. Yeah, the PSP & DS3 controller port MicroUSB ports and the PS3 has 2/4 USB ports, depending on model.

With PS3 you can even plugin an official Sega Saturn USB controller and enjoy the best 2D fighter controller ever. Unlike that POS Madcatz Fightpad anon thinks is good. Seriously, that thing is a POS. The face buttons aren't springy enough, the dpad is too large & greasy feeling and the contact pad under the dpad wears out prematurely. Simply put, it fails miserably at trying to imitate the Sega Saturn controller.

It's good for almost anything and everything, as long as it doesn't need analogs. If you're willing to take it a step further, there are custom PCBs that will allow you to use it with ANY platform, even real older consoles, not just emulation.
