What's /vr/ take on playing handheld games in a non handheld setup?

My hands are too big for gameboys so it's the way to go for me

>> No.5575863

I play gameboy games using the Super Gameboy 2, and GBA games using the GBA player and SD loader.

However, I cant get Gameboy Player Interface to work in conjunction with the GCHD MKii and a pair of SCART cables. I end up getting a black bar in the middle of the picture and I havent figured out how to fix that.

mfw using a SNES classic controller through a Raphnet adapter into a Gamcube using Game Boy Interface, just like Miyamoto intended.

it's great. That's why the Nintendo Switch is a thing now. I love playing old game gear and gameboy games on my MiSTer and GBA games on my modded Gamecube.

It's useful for gimmick speedruns of two games with a single controller on official hardware for legitimacy.

For casual play, I like emulation with LCD shaders. Some would say handheld game pixels look best projected onto CRT phosphors, and I wouldn't disagree, having done it in the past with an S-video card. Seemed to make Fire Emblem look alright.

Your GCHD is defaulting(forcing?)480p, and you're feeding it to a 480i/SD display. Figure out how to set it to 480i or 240p and it'll display proper.

Love playing handhelds on a big screen. Wish there was some other official way with a bigger library to play DS games on a TV besides Wii U VC. Thinking about getting a Super Game Boy 2 because I really like some of the borders for games.

It's a shame the GB Player looks like shit with the official software, and there is no DS/3DS player.

It's my preferred way to play. If pic related had an RGB out, I'd buy one in a heartbeat.

>> No.5577356

I play most on emulators on my pc so who cares how they’re “meant” to be played just play them

>> No.5577365

>>5575863
Had the same issue mate, you need to turn on dYuv in the options menu for RGB output. It’s a comparability mode I think

I play GB and GB Color on an Analogue NT Mini, but I'm thinking of getting a Super Gameboy 2 so I can play on my Super NT with better color options. I play Game Gear on my Mega SG.

Using GBi is very easy though.

I greatly prefer it. Never liked playing on a small shitty screen.

It's good if it's done right, like the super gameboy. Sure beats holding a tiny device with a screen for ants that's hard to see properly and also has really terrible response time.

Am I the only one who finds this image deeply sexual? Imagine the things you could do to his face if it was the other way around, if what you did to Mario on the screen controller him. Imagine the contortions you could put him through completely out of his control. Imagine, I just want you to imagine it — he's on display because he was, because he had to be. He could cry and you wouldn't stop. When I was a kid playing Mario 64 I could quite literally sit on this screen for hours, trying to match my face to what was being displayed. The thought of having that done to me without any control of my own excites me in a very primal way. Anyone else?

Never was able to afford the handhelds back then, so playing them in a consolized or emulated form is fine for me. Discovered a lot of great game that way which I was not able to. An added benefit of using a controller that is more comfortable to me.

I prefer playing them on pc, it'll sound like heresy here but I like to upscale, mod games and use AA filters. also, the resolution in handhelds always felt too small for me but with the switch is different, 720p is really nice.
most people play retro games on 3ds, I have one, but I never liked the scanlines

You know if you're going to play everdrive roms from an SD card on a retro emulation console outputting to an HDMI upscaler hooked to an HDTV using 3rd party controllers from late 2015s isn't it better to just emulate on PC?

Your TV needs a zoom option. PSP has a stupid resolution. 240p would have been better.

Does the same apply to Component output? Since I see the same issue in 480p on my GCHD Mk2 with Wii cables.
