What's the best filter for SNES9X?

Filters make the game look worse.

I personally don't use them, but the best filter is whatever is most appealing to you. It may or may not ruin the game's original look, but in my opinion, who cares? It's your game, on your emulator, on your device. Play it however it makes you happy. Now, if you mean what looks the most accurate, then there's probably a lot of filters and resolution options you could play with to recreate that.

We play with shaders now. CRT-Royale is pretty great. I usually like one of the ntsc composite presets.

Amateur bait, paisano. The corrrect opener would be: "What's the best filter for ZSNES?"

I use a Scanline CG shader. Can't remember if it came with the emulator, or if I got it from some pack. I'd show it here, but I can't get my emu to produce snaps with shaders.

For nearly everything but a few edge cases no one plays anyway, most prefer to spend that processing power on run-ahead and shaders.

This, most people don't understand this simple concept.
Sure, it's not 100% the same as the original (although it can be close), and there is nothing wrong in wanting to have the original experience (TM), but a good shader, on a good display, will still be pleasant to look at.
Sometimes arguably better.

I haven't found such thing in retroarch. Most CRT shaders have very heavy scanlines by default. Shaders that deal with dithering fuck it up a little with some titles. NTSC ones don't look that good on big displays. Most of those ones that just blend and blur everything together to get something "high res" like >>5573334 aren't pleasant to look at either.

As of late I've been using the controlled sharpness preset with default settings because I just want it not to look like I can cut myself on the edges of those pixels.

Just add scanlines (pic is 50%) and use bilinear filtering to smooth it out a bit. Looks reasonably good.

I don't care for overly blurry vaseline-shaders.

That's actually not bad at all. What emulator/shader is that?

>> No.5574216

>>5574190
Looks decent because scanlines don't affect clear colors as much.

>> No.5574245

Why do people wank over scanlines so much?

>> No.5574253

>>5574195
Just scanlines at 50% with bilinear filtering. Snes9x.

>>5574216
That's weird, I never noticed that. Doesn't it look similar on a CRT due to glow? I don't have a CRT here to test, but I do remember that scanlines had variable intensity, at least on my TV.

Yeah, on CRT they aren't noticeable with bright colors.

There are many scanline filters that simply ignore that and make everything dark which makes it look horrible.
