I've always wondered this for years but does Sega own the rights to Battle Mania? I know the games where by Vic Tokai but their appearance in Segaga is a mystery to me.

Also why has this series never gotten re-released on any genesis collection

I just beat Trouble Makers. I'm going to beat it on hard 1cc, but it's not much of a challenge. I think the sequel is a better game. I'll tackle that next. I'm mainly playing these games because I'm a noob at shmups and they are some of the easiest shmups you can play. The cutscenes are as annoying as hell, I always skip them.

I have no idea about ownership of the IP. I thought it was odd that the Sega chime played during one of the later cutscenes, there's also Sega written on the crates in the weapon select screen. There's also the matter of pic related, I think Vic Tokai were always pretty friendly with Sega. Doesn't Segaga have a lot of random shit in it? Vic Tokai are now defunct so that would explain why they aren't milking re-releases.

Thy used to have a hate boner towards Nintendo for whatever reason.

Vic Tokai is still around and in business. But they stopped making games in the late 90's or something. They probably do own the rights to the games still and license them out to Sega for use.

Vic Tokai still holds the rights to this IP

As far as I know the lead designer was furious about Vic Tokai relegating guys from his team to some Super Famicom project, hence the "Mania jumps on the SFC" easter egg in the first game. The second game - Daiginjou, has you fighting caped Mario lookalikes who throw rotten Yoshi eggs at you (seriously).

I wish they could re-release both games just like OP said or have some third-party developer make another game. The world needs more gorgeous anime ladies on jet-packs blowin' shit up.

I use to rent Trouble Shooter for the Genesis quite frequently. It is basically Forgotten Worlds with two characters being controlled by one player. I always thought it was weird that the game never supported two players, even though it looks like it could have been a two player co-op game. But, it's fine as a single player shooter.

I have only ever played the sequel in emulation. Never on real hardware. It is a better game overall technically. Also, it has great soundtrack.

It's expensive as FUCK.

>Also, it has great soundtrack.
Definitely, Daiginjou's soundtrack is top notch, one of the best on Genesis/MD.

I could still buy an Everdrive and play the ROM on my real Genesis. But yeah, the cart goes for a lot.

The third game, Battle Mania NY. Was suppose to be pitched at some point during the Saturn or Dreamcast's lifecycle.

Unseen64 has an article on it:

I actually would have liked to see this become a Dreamcast game. I remember being a little disappointing that Planet Harriers was never ported to the console, even though it was slated to be released for it. This looks like it could have been a nice substitute. Shame.

Yep, that's definitely Softimage's horrible standard scanline renderer

wish Sega would just acquire some of Vic Tokai games like what they did with Technosoft recently

I mean, they still could. An SEGA AGES version of b oi th games would be nice like they did with Thunderforce IV.

Why is she pulling her shorts down? Was this going to be a hentai game like Valis X?

>Why is she pulling her shorts down?
She's not. It's just an animated exaggeration of the shorts that don't fit that were in style at the time. Just like Yuffie from FF7.

Switching the game to Dirty Pair probably could have brought in a few more sales. But I'm glad they went with original characters. I am a bit disappointed that we didn't get a 3D game. Space Harrier on-rails like shooter could have been fun. Oh well.
