I have that Asterix game. Great looking, but shitty gameplay. It's frustrating as fuck when there's hiding enemies which are almost impossible to kill without getting hit. Also you slide way too much. Also those minigames where you just have to mash a button like a madman.
What the fuck where the devs thinking, they were so close and just fucked it up.

Sounds like a typical case of western game development that isn't FPS or RTS.
Play the arcade belt scrollan game of Asterix and Obelix instead.

Possibly. Thing is, it's not a complete trainwreck, other than the flaws I mentioned it has decent gameplay, good level design, good art and music, some interesting levels which aren't just about getting to the end, that kind of thing. But those small flaws just ruin the fun.

It's a bad game, anon. It looks pretty and it's the kind of game you really WANT to enjoy, but it's so badly made it hurts.

It's not a bad game, it's flawed. It would be top-tier if you would just change two or three gameplay elements.

>>5551381
It's not great, like I said it's flawed. There's that one level where there's enemies hiding behind stuff, easy to spot and all, but I could literally never ever hit them before they could hit me. I have no idea how you're supposed to hit them without getting damage. Apparently you have to have superhuman reflexes to do so or something. Up to that level it was all good, but I could never get past that level because of those cunts.
Also the button mashing minigames. Which are like a minor annoyance, but still. The fucking bullfighting thing, it's just mashing the button, that's not fun.

Other than that it's a good game, but those things just kill all the fun.

Yes and no. It was developed by Bit Managers, who were behind almost all of the French comic license games on the Game Boy, so they did make some Smurf games there. But not The Smurfs game.

The PSX/PC strategy game is also good. It's like a sequel to North & South.

The button mashing sections in the PC version are impossible physically for resolutions above 640x480 (or) modern PCs.

It has some dubious gameplay design choices, but the game is kino. It's one of Infogrammes' best efforts. The games based on Spirou, Lucky Luke, Marsupilami, Smurfs, Tintin (twice) and then this showed an improvement of polish in this order. Tintin in Tibet really nailed the comic books look but has LJN game design. Asterix and Obelix on the other hand is redeemable if someone made a romhack to fix the button mashing and the sloppy hitboxes.

MOTW is drop dead gorgeous, but SF3 is still even smoother. Like, when sitting right next to SF3, Garou looks like any other fighter in terms of animation.

AOF3 does have the animation to compete (and HUGE sprites), but it was also SNK's first time using 3D graphics to assist with animation, so some of the animations are just really kinda awkward and shit, even if they're smooth as hell.

Is that the arcade Asterix game? I remember it being comfy and really fun. I think the final boss of the first level was a Roman testudo. Still, I played it as a teen in the 90's so my memory is fuzzy. Or I may have mistook it for a PC side-scroller. There were a LOT of Asterix games back in the day.

The best looking game, ever, is Metal Slug 3. It is 2d and retro by the bizarre standards of this board. But that's besides the point because it doesn't require those qualifications.

Samurai Showdown 3 had nicer animations for its time, but then fuck kill them in IV, Art of Fighting 3 (the only playable one) had smooth frames, but the animations his very little their 3dimensional rotoscoping.

there's WakuWaku7 which has great animations (salve for the obvious workaround with Dandy) but that was Sunsoft.

SFIII might not been a hit at the time but it didn't bombed like AoF3 did for SNK
