How do you get a challenge out of arcade games when you have unlimited credits?

>> No.5550476

Try using only one.

>> No.5550478

No amount of credits will allow you to score better in most games.

>> No.5550480

It's called "stop adding credits"

>> No.5550481

Work towards a 1cc or scores

>> No.5550484

Commit to a certain number of credits each run. That's it.

>if only a way of increasing the challenge by using only one credit to complete the game
>if only it was mentioned here >9000 times every day
Welcome to /vr/ kiddo. How's your first day doing?

how can non-arcade games be challenging when they allow save points, and unlimited FREE retries?

>> No.5552238

1cc is a personal challenge
community could've made it 2cc or no-miss or ignore it and only look at score
depends on the game and community
all subjective SHIT

>> No.5552251

>>5552238
It's the only option that makes sense, 2cc's games clearly weren't really balanced for so your score gets reset, extends cease to make much sense and you get locked out of content in many games. No miss as a basic challenge also makes no sense since the games give you extends and clearly allow you to use your extra lives. Then there's those games that don't reset your score between credits, so just looking at the score would make no sense there. It really is the only sensible option in a world of emulators and ports with infinite credits.

You don't. You want a real challenge? Why don't you beat real life with the highest score?

Self-control. Try for a 1CC or start caring about score.

>game allows extends so no-miss makes no sense
and game allows credit feeding so 1cc makes no sense
what makes sense, what the developers want is a 1000CC so they increase their profits

>> No.5552352

>>5552329
It makes sense for all the reasons I listed. Games give you extends as rewards for good play or discovery, they're completely free. Some bosses are balanced around you using all your resources too. A no miss is usually rewarded by score but that's it. If developers wanted 1000CC's they wouldn't balance their games for a 1CC or encourage it. They wouldn't get their 1000CC's either since if a game doesn't respect its players then the players didn't respect the game. At least that's how it used to be, nowadays mobile games can treat the users like absolute dogshit and they'll lap it up.

this. Or count the number of credits you add and aim to improve each time

the challenge is becoming as good as you can be
figure out your own goals if typical challenges don't work for you on whatever game you're playing

This is your goal at the most basic level.
Then comes score and time attack.

Easy - 10 Credits
Normal - 5 Credits
Medium - 3 Credits
Hard - 1 Credit

Within the game's difficulty setting. If you can't beat an arcade game on easiest setting on 10 credits then you're not trying hard enough.

>> No.5552782

>>5552780
Additional note: make sure you're playing the right version of the game. Some games have regional variants which are harder to beat. Super Street fighter II Turbo is much harder to beat on 8 stars than Super Street Fighter II X, for example. Yet, since X is the original Japanese release one can say that it more so reflects the original intended difficulty balance, and beating it on 8 stars is beating it on the hardest difficulty. Turbo is sort of a later hack made for international release. Don't feel as bad about losing in that game.

This goes for lots and lots and lots of games.

If you can't 1cc altered beast on the hardest setting you're not trying hard enough to not be an embarrassment to your species. Since you pull random numbers out of your ass and pretend their facts that apply across the board it's clear to me what species that is.

You try to beat them with less credits than unlimited. Just mentally / arbitrarily limit yourself.

Hint: the gamecube version of ikaruga has unlimited continues, but there's a big difference between dying 200 times and clearing it in one credit (let alone no-hit clear)
>>5552915
This but a little less ironically.
If you can't 1cc altered beast, sunset riders, goldenaxe, streets of rage, etc...
