Definitely include Fire & Ice for the NES in the puzzle genre. Its prequel, Solomon's Key is also pretty neat regardless of the version. Eggerland/Adventure of Lolo is pretty patrician, and Quinty/Mendel Palace from future Pokemon creators Game Freak is generally well-regarded, though often overlooked. I'm gonna trust someone else to judge whether the latter ones belong in the pantheon of absolute best pre-2000 puzzle games of all time, however.
Anyways those guys from this defunct website made some great retro toplists, check them out for reference.

these can offer good starting points and can give the viewer an idea of what to try next via categorization or details. if done well they can prompt discovery and discussion.

that said, there are already good ones for each system as well a few in-depth ones (usually based on genre, mood, series, or translation status). this one is crap compared to what you'd get if you just pasted all those together, not simply based on quantity but also due to a complete lack of details. the aim is to create a /mu/-like rec chart, and it's going to miss in the same ways that one misses. there's also the issue that the quality of this board has declined immensely, so the quality of the recs will be commensurately poorer than the ones on the already existing charts. but some people like making these things and other people like being spoonfed anything rather than checking the archive for good things, so here we are.

It's good that you added Gimmick but pretty strange that neither of the Umihara Kawase games are on there.

I'll look more at this later when I have the time, but something I'd suggest right now is that at the moment five of the games in the RPG section are strategy RPG's. I'd recommend adding a strategy RPG section freeing up more space for regular RPG's.

Also, if you decide to stick with having PC and handhelds as separate categories I think it looked better when it was at the end instead of in the center, it kind of breaks up the flow as it is now.

Super Saiya Densetsu could also be included on the RPG section, that's one of the earliest games that got an english translation, I remember playing it on snes emulator in the early 2000s.
And if you want to go full contrarian/hipster, the Super Gokuden games, which have a cult following in Japan but are hard to get into because you need moon knowledge (or bear the terrible fan translation) and a convulted battle system.

Not him, but at the actual time of its release, not many people cared about it, since it was a 2D game. Even Konami themselves treated it more as a budget spinoff title and put more budget on making Castlevania 64.
It still wasn't a totally obscure title and got good reviews, since it managed to get a PS1 green label release, but I remember people picking up interest in SOTN post-2000, in 1998, not so much.
