Mupen64 with Angrylion is hardware perfect, but you need a top tier thousand-dollar CPU to run it.

EverDrive 64 is the best option because emulation sucks.

Emulating on original hardware is still emulation. Buy the original carts for the only authentic experience.

>> No.5543038

It's alright but its also a mess. The creator of the most popular n64 emulator refuses to bundle his software with the most competent and actively updated graphics plugin because it's not optimized for weaker machines. The included plugin is shit and has essentially stagnated, but it's also the default option that most people use.

>> No.5543078

It's pretty messy. The best package is m64p which is a tinkered with version of Mupen64Plus with a GUI, GlideN64 and AngryLion that pretty much runs most things very well. Versions before January 26 2019 are Patreonware though, though I've heard the additions haven't been great.

>> No.5543102

Which emulator should I use if I wanted to play Paper Mario?

>> No.5543113

It's probably a case similar to DS emulation, where 90% of the issues with it turned out to just be because the legacy emulators were made back when the hardware wasn't understood well and had to use a bunch of quick fix methods that persist in the latest versions (but worked well enough that nobody wanted to go through the trouble of making a new one from scratch). It wasn't until someone decided to make a new emulator that was phone-compatible that we finally got one that wasn't a goddamn mess.

>> No.5543126

A buddy of mine told me yesterday that Mac finally got some decent emulator recently. He was really excited to get to experience shit that the rest of us have been playing with since Bush's first term in office.

Other than that, I don't think much has changed.

How the fuck is a Chinese knockoff produced way after 2000 retro or authentic? You're seriously arguing that an emulation of something isn't emulation, and is authentic? You and your family need to be tortured and then killed.

You have a point if its for a system with special chips in some carts(eq sd2snes flashcart playing super fx games) but the everdrive of consoles like the 64, and the gameboys have no special chips in most of their games. Playing banjo kazooie on a everydrive is pretty much identical to playing with the real cart. Retard.

Google will be your better buddy and I haven't tried N64 for a long enough time in the past 3 years but from what I understood you'll gonna want to grab GlideN64 (not to be confused with Glide64) for the graphics plugin. Can't remember the exact one for audio but there was one that wasn't included with either mupen or project 64 that sounded really good. I think someone else might correct me where I'm wrong and add more about the audio plug-in thingy.

I still prefer to play on an original N64 with an original controller with a flashdrive so take my advice with a grain of salt if you will.

So you admit it's not actually identical. Therefore, it is inauthentic. Emulating a cartridge is still emulation.

I did say without additions. With SSF you gotta mount ISOs and change around shit to get a bunch of games to actually work. Mednafen is just plop game in Mednafan and the game runs.
