Will we ever get a retro-style console that portable plays SNES carts like the Nomad did with Genesis? With all the retro remake consoles I'm surprised it doesn't exist already.

You can also just slide a raspberry piece of shit into an enclosure, there's many to choose from.

this is the best you get, unless you want true OG hardware accuracy, in which case you will probably have to hack up an SNES Jr.

You ain't ever gonna fucking get one because Nintendo ain't gonna make one. You're gonna have to get chink shit that anyone with half a brain would hook up to a PC to inject firmware to play all the games on anyway like those shitty mini-Genesis consoles they sell at Target. Wanna say AT Games makes them?

That's what you would get with a SNES Portable. Faggot.

The reality is that the Nomad sucks and was such a massive drain on batteries that it was really only useable plugged in. I eventually sold mine because I found I virtually always just used a PSP instead.

I can understand caring about carts and real hardware if you're also hooking it up to a CRT for old school feels, but playing portable it seems like it would be useless extra weight and power drain over just emulating.

The Sega Nomad is shitty until you replace the display and add in a rechargeable battery. Pretty much on par with SupaBoy after that; something a sane person would be embarrassed to show publicly

Unlike most other portable consoles, nomad has easily tappable composite video signal so it's super easy to replace with the screen with one that is not only way superior but also much more energy efficient so the batteries last way longer.

Yeah, basically this. The Nomad is fine for what it was. It was basically a Sega Mega Jet remodelled into a handheld for North America. Yeah, the battery life sucked for it, but what else could you really expect from a portable Sega Genesis that was released in 1996? Screen technology was so hot either. The old screen backlight technology does use a lot more power. Replacing it with a newer screen will increase battery life overall.

The system does have a video out port and has 9-button pins for Sega Genesis controllers. So it can also be used as a console as well.

>Because I always used a PSP instead
This is valid today, certainly. But at the time, the Nomad was pretty damned amazing.
I'd never tell someone to get a Nomad these days, but I loved mine when I was a teenager and went on road trips.
It had a car adaptor and I also had 3 battery packs and a rechargeable pack too. Being able to play Lemmings on the way to the beach when a friend was driving was pretty nice.

Ohh yes deffinitely. I used to bring mine to college and play it on breaks and had a lazy security job where it was a godsend. But in 2019 there are so many better options.
