You have to be severely underage if you think Pokémon Go holds even a candle to the initial Pokémon mania in the states. I could write paragraphs about how the two times are so vastly different but it wouldn't make a difference.

Theey're different in interesting ways, honestly. Both fads. One just heavily relied on selling multimedia to children while the other had autistic adults and bandwaggoning normalfags clogging the streets and getting hit by cars to hunt the pokemon xD with their phones. The latter was more entertaining from the sidelines desu but the former produced games and other forms of media with soul, something Pokemon Go never had and why it didn't last beyond being a meme for retards to latch onto only for their sloth brains to forget about in two weeks.

It was brilliant, eventhough my lying friend told me I could walk around in the jungle taking pictures it was still the best way to experience pokemons as living creatures. One of the most epic feeling when you created links through the course and ended up with new pokemons appearing.

I suppose it's interesting in that way, but the initial one was just way more interesting and fun. The games, the controversy surrounding the franchise, the movies, the cards, the spin off games that came in droves, the community in elementary schools around the games, the branding of Pokémon on literally everything (cereal, pop tarts, cars, etc.). Pokémon go was pretty big for a month or two and still has a lot of users but it can't even begin to compare about how much gen 1 influenced American kids.

The very best thing to come out of Pokemon Go was the absolute disaster that was Pokemo Go Fest.

I didn't even know that was a real thing, I can only assume from the amount of spergs I saw playing the game irl it couldn't have been good.

The game was fun initially when I could just go out at like midnight and skateboard around the city catching shit and just cruising. Eventually though it got stale seeing the same 5 Pokémon in my city.

At the festival, the game barely even worked. Server issues the whole time.
People were throwing shit like drink bottles and tomatoes at the people on stage. It was such a mess.

I have a distinct memory playing Blue on my Super Game Boy while flipping through this in the living room during Thanksgiving 98. The adults in the family were having desert and talking about Pokemon popularity. I clearly remember my mom commenting how it's just a fad.

Fuck dude, catching the 180th Drowzee where I lived, this shit is true. I heard they've improved it, but after maybe 2 months after release I packed it in and called it done.

The best part of this game was creating chain reactions which would lead to a Pokemon's evolution. Like chucking Magikarp into a waterfall so it would turn into Gyarados.

Go was artificially made popular for a month after release, then everyone forgot about it.
You should have seen 1999, if you think Go was anything more than a monthlong fad. Shit, Pocket Pikachu had more staying power, since at least that was around a whole summer.

True, there were in stickers, albums, fake toys, yogurts, cards, bubblegum, spaghetti, in the cinema, in evangelic propaganda as the coming of the devil. They were everywhere.
Fuck my life I really miss it.
