Is this the greatest innovation for the purpose of retro gaming? It feels like I'm finally not getting a gimped experience by playing on a UHD display

>> No.5530363

I'm fine with the RetroTink 2X for my real hardware since I'm kind of an autismo about not modding my Famicoms and need at least composite support. I use FPGA clones for the "HD EXPERIENCE", which I'm content with. I'm happy the OSSC exists though, especially since the Framemeister won't for much longer.

It's a gadget for connecting old consoles to a new tv because you're not allowed to own a CRT

Its more or less an line multiplier that can increase the resolution of the signal without loss of clarity and sharpness along with minimal input lag it does what it sets out to do well play retro games on modern TV's

Fuck off boomer. I see you in every upscaler thread going on about this and also claiming modern tvs have too much lag.

Weird, I own several CRTs of various types, an OSSC, and a Framemeister, and I like all of them for different purposes or just depending on what mood I'm in. I think you might just be poor.

I'm seeing a lot of chink versions of the OSSC popping up on eBay lately.

Has it been cloned? Obviously it was an open-source project from day one but you know what I mean.

The sound is distorting because the level is too high and it's clipping. Solution: attenuate the sound until it's no longer clipping.

It comes with psu and remote and costs the same ans VGP's OSSC without those accessories.
but it's also typical chinesium-quality and they ripped off VGP's OSSC-logo and manual and they are even pointing to VGP for support, lel.

I mean the appearance is identical down to the perspex "case" which offers minimal protection to the board.

They could have improved that at least.

I would bypass the tink for sound altogether, just run your audio to a power amp or something. >>5531335 suggestion is good too, attenuate the volume before it hits the tink so it doesn't blow it out.

I've been thinking about getting one of these since it seems like a better long term option than maintaining a CRT.

The only thing which worries me is how it apparently struggles with 240p/480i switching and perhaps interlaced signals in general. Does anyone happen to know the best solution to that problem?

Shut the fuck up material fags

>> No.5532328

>>5532285
The OSSC doesn't struggle with them at all, it only takes three frames to resync after a resolution change and can pass interlaced signals through just fine. Modern displays are what struggle with resolution switching and interlacing. The only "solution" to that "problem" is a fancy deinterlacer with a frame buffer that can do frame rate conversion like the Framemeister, but the downside of that is added latency.

I'm torn between the OSSC and the Frameister. The FM looks better with PS2 and other interlaced content, but has added latency because of that. While the OSSC uses bob deinterlacing with no latency but I'm not sure I would like that look. Anyone play PS2 or other interlaced game with bob-deinterlacing? How do you feel about it?

>> No.5535346

>>5535328
I've tried bob with Dscaler. It's ok. I don't have Dscaler set up on my current PC so I couldn't tell you from memory which deinterlacing method I preferred for games but there are plenty of choices.

>> No.5535405

>>5535328
I went with the OSSC and I'm pretty happy about it. I've tried 480i on the thing a few times and I don't think it's awful. In some situations I think it looks almost better or at least more accurate than the deinterlacing that a PS3 does on PS2 games I'd say. I happen to own an original fat PS3 if I feel dissatisfied with how PS2 games look through the scan converter. I'm pretty sure it's possible for the PS3 to deinterlace and output 480p then run that through the OSSC too but I have yet to try that.

>> No.5535462

>>5535328
I own both and I rarely use the Framemeister anymore, even for PS2. Bob deinterlacing really isn't bad IMO, it looks similar to interlacing on a CRT. Between bob deinterlacing for speed and my TV's deinterlacing for quality, I find it's not worth bothering to hook up the FM most of the time. Plus the FM's video noise can get pretty annoying once you're used to how clean the OSSC's output is in comparison. The only reason to consider a Framemeister at this point is if you absolutely need composite/S-Video support or if you're scared of potential compatibility issues.
