I feel awful that I cant get into Alpha Centauri properly. The classic civ playstyle does not swim with me somehow. Same applies to MoM.

Every time I played this game I ended up controlling a few units at best, running everyone else on automatic. I don't think this is good game design that I actually won.

The Planet seems way too hostile to human life for several of the game's ideologies to really work within that environment. How do you run a free market enterprise there for one thing

Bottle up the mind worms and sell them as organic lava lamps

Are SMAC and Deus Ex the most quotable games of all time?

One could argue that the opposite is true as well, since in the overwhelming majority of 4x games letting shit go automated will result in disaster due to awful AI.

... maybe that's why Morgans have such hard time just fucking getting by and it's challenging to play as them unless you go full on exploit-based gameplay?
Still, I want my experience of the first time in SMAC back. It's been 16 years and I still have fond memories of that match, despite fucking up royaly

Morgan is the strongest human controlled faction in the game once he gets up to steam. He can tech up as fast as Zahkarov and these tech will solve any disadvantages of his faction.

You just proved my statement, congrats.

And no, teching up won't solve his disadvantages, because you clearly don't even understand what puts him in a disadvantage in the first place. Part of the reason why AI can't play Morgan for shit is because it can't into expansion, due to scripting error.
So rather than doing what Morgan is designed for (gorillion of small bases covering as much land as possible, but not as ICS), it tries to build tall with a faction that has a debuff for going tall until late game.

Why the fuck are you talking about the shitty AI when he clearly said human controlled? Morgan is an incredibly strong faction. Don't blame others for your inability to manage your game without relying on automatic mode.

>AI can't play Morgan for shit
I'd like to say I'm a seasoned Transcend and I think the AI only really plays Yang, Lal and Deirdre decently due to their slight "everyman" status and Yang's particular emphasis on expansion and swarming it up.
Zakharov AI is pretty much always a passive, Civ that gets out-expanded and thus ultimately out-teched (especially considering his natural animosities with the warmongers) and while Miriam and to a lesser extent Santiago tend to be the early game bully that force some additional costs upon the player, they tend to fall into obscurity.
It's not uncommon to see extremely potent leaders like Zak in SMAC or Huayna Capac in Civ4 end up being played poorly due to the bad AI that also happens to be a passive peacenik.
So I don't think Morgan's issues make him bad on paper.

The AI still sucks, and I'm pretty sure it didn't know it can build gravships at all. I ended up utterly dominating everything, even on higher difficultues.

Although I learned how much about Civilisation, the series I started with III, I took for granted. Was very educational.
