I'm thinking of maybe getting this. How is it compared to Goldeneye on the N64?

>> No.5526134

gunplay is not as satisfying as Goldeneye (shooting enemies feels a bit off) but the missions, weapons, gadgets and levels are pretty fun to play and use.

Not as good as you probably suspected, but I still enjoyed it back in the day.

>> No.5526172

I remember renting this after loving goldeneye, and I got stuck in the first two minutes and absolutely could not figure out what to do and gave up and never wanted to touch it again.

>> No.5526175

I always liked this game a lot more than Goldeneye. Multiplayer was so much better.

How's the PS1 version?

it's ok, is not better than goldeneye
also check the ps1 version, is a different game

If this is the game that I think it is, the starting pistol is very satisfying. You could also play against AI in multiplayer right?

>> No.5526589

yes, it supports 4 bots

>> No.5526687

>>5526113
They did their best to copy Goldeneye, while bringing Perfect Dark improvements like bots for multiplayer. Never got recognition for some reason.

The single player experience was not very good. Classic EA outbidding on a license and fucking it up

TWINE is fucking amazing. Don't miss it OP. Make sure to play it with friends when you unlock all the levels.

I remember asking for goldeneye and my dad got me this instead. He tried his best. Thanks dad

>>5526113
it's god tier

Goldeneye is good though honestly this game aged a little nicer, and the multiplayer is fantastic as fuck. PS1 version is a completely different game though, didn't age too well as IIRC it's tank controls with no dualshock support

coincidentally, roughly a week ago I put together this tier list for the weapons of the TWINE 64 multiplayer just for the fuck of it, if anyone is interested in this autistic shit

>> No.5528842

>>5526113
people don't even realise why goldeneye feels so good - the physics is very precise and the hit detection is per-polygon exact. Then you jump into this game and you will be like ugh what the fuck, because enemies slide around on the floor and glitch into the air to do their death animation etc. their hitboxes are probably a big rectangle and i don't even know if there's any physics.
There's probably some frenetic fun to be had -
put goldeneye out of your head however

>> No.5528859

>>5528842
honestly the more time you put in the game the greater it gets. once you start to get the feel for it, it feels fluid as fuck and very natural (though admittedly you could really say the same for any game that doesn't objectively control like shit)

>> No.5528875

I played a lot of the blackjack level. I had a ps1 so can't really compare it to Goldeneye

TWINE for the N64 and TWINE for the PSX are two entirely different games.

>> No.5529020

Added now-common features to the 007 world (jump, crouch, alternate weapon settings, gadgets, vision modes etc) that showed up in PD.
The graphics are a little fuzzy and popcorny, but the VAs are decent. It's a fun game, but has more fluff than the straighffoward GE. City of Walkways 1/2 are some of the most frustrating levels I've played.

The multiplayer with the chair lifts was fun as fuck. Used to have all my buddies come over and we'd game out for hours on end while blasting limp bizkit lol. This was 2000/2001

They actually remade that level in 007 Nightfire's multiplayer and made the buildings in it large as fuck with fully fleshed interiors.

I also remade the TWINE version in Quake 1

good taste in levels, friend

PS1 has no multiplayer and the single player is completely different levels, and IIRC, forced tank controls. different companies dev'd the two games, so it's an unrelated experience. if you don't hate tank controls, this game is ok, not groundbreaking or anything.

64 on the other hand has god tier multiplayer and AI for said multiplayer, and while tank controls are set as the default, you can change it to something that isn't trash. Single player is great too, if you're willing to either spend a chunk of time learning the layout of the last level or willing to look up a walkthrough for the last level (it's muscle memory for me though I can understand that it's pretty goddamned confusing to pretty much anyone else)

Do you know if mouse injector would work for this game? I have a special emulator specifically for Goldeneye and the controls are already set for keyboard and mouse controls.

It's much more slow paced than GoldenEye, there are a couple of missions with forced stealth and has cutscenes. Much more linear too. You might say it's the exact opposite of GoldenEye, but at least it's not as terrible as the PS1 version.
Needless to say, both games have nothing to do with each other except for the brand. Different developers and publishers.

I've never used the mouse injector, though after piquing a friend of mine's curiosity with this game not too long after I made that autistic tier list, he tried to use it and it didn't work for him, so I got no idea.

TWINE was made by Eurocom, who were good friends with Rare.

>Needless to say, both games have nothing to do with each other except for the brand.
Eurocom were on speaking terms with Rare. TWINE is literally the closest game to GoldenEye that isn't Perfect Dark, and even replicates features such as increased objective complexity on higher difficulties. Eurocom later went on to develop Nightfire, the PS2 version of Quantum of Solace, the 2010 GoldenEye remake, and the ill-fated 007: Legends that Activision gave them six months to make.
