When did Mario stop being cool?

after sunshine and thousand year door, then again you didn't specify the context. do you mean when did it become less cool to be 'into' mario? or do you mean the character in his own game's context? personally his persona in sunshine was cool but i wasnt a humongous fan of the game as it often went hot/cold in terms of gameplay/platforming. thousand year door he was a pimp. i thought he turned into a giant faggot in uhhh whats that shit called again? galaxy.

Playing Mario without yoshi is like playing sonic without spindash so he wasn't cool for very long

Super Mario 64 was the last cool Mario game.

To me, Sunshine ruined the core franchise.
I despise gimmicky shit that just complicates the original purpose of having fun in the first place. Nintendo has been losing grasp of simple, fun ideas that are worth the cost of a full price game.

Now they have gone balls to the wall insane trying to market the Labo goggles.

Childhood essentially ruined bc it's so rare to find a game like Mario 64 which truly revolutionized gaming without added content or hardware.

Mario was never cool. Was never intended to be cool. He’s just a generic character to be placed in ANY Nintendo game role. Which is why I think it’s weird people criticize Mario Golf, Mario Kart, Mario Tennis, Picross, etc. This is exactly what Mario was designed for.

That class traitor was never cool. The games are fun, but no kid liked the smelly hamburger man

>> No.5520896

I've never thought of Mario as cool, but he is fun, and that's all that's ultimately matters for a video game character.

Why does Mario talk less and less with each passing year? It's like Nintendo at first wanted to show off that the N64 could do speech samples and you could hear the iconic Mario's voice for the first time, in a game, but as the tech got better Shiggy just decides "go wowowow oh no yippie". I'm not asking for a pixar movie, I want the characters to at least be able to hold a small conversation.

That's like a PR thing, those old computer games with Mario also had Mario speak more than just onomatopoeias like in newer games. It's kinda like how the characters in Zelda games never actually say anything, they just grunt, gasp, or sigh, and by extension any character interactions in Brawl onwards.
