From a gameplay perspective
Do you guys still think games from the 32 bit era is holding up?
and do you guys think they will in the future?

Some of them have aged amazingly well even graphically, and definitely hold up.
A game like vagrant story has such a distinct art style and coloring that it makes it look great even now and it plays as good as ever, in fact I don't know another game quite like it.
Some of them not so much, but I guess it's the same for every system.
Those early clunky 3D ps1 games are most of them obsolete.
But a game like soul reaver is perfectly playable.
It depends on the game.

Siphon Filter? Which one?

Yes but I have nostalgia for the era and dig the graphic style (limitations).

Soul Reaver is playable, true. It's just pretty bad so no one would want to.

>> No.5516338

Syphon Filter is perfectly playable. People criticize it often, which shows how the whole "this game le aged bad guise" is really code word "I'm awful and this game and must blame someone else".

I played some of it recently, got a few levels in before giving up. The combat system is cool, the danger meter thing is a nice way to mix hitscan weapons with dodging, but the fucking built-in 1second of input lag just grinds my shit down.

The games aren't bad, but modern gamers are used to a lot of modern conveniences. So they feel very clunky by comparison.

>>5516190
The point is that games don't age. It's not the games that changed, it's the gamers that do. "Badly aged" game for one player might be perfectly fine for another - it depends on how much good will and effort the player is willing to put into it.

Syphon Filter 1 was the only good one. Seriously, 2 is a mess. From the roced stealth sections every two missions, the increased script sequences that get you kill in the most bullshit ways and the broken prison level

not in any engaging and meaningful way..
cops speed to catch speeders. people tell other people nobody cares to wake them the fuck up.
if someone tells you they don't care, and proceeds to elaborate on the discussion in any fashion OTHER than to explain the nature of his not caring, only THEN can this banal comeback mean anything.

if you respond to this at all, except to say, "thank you sincerely for enlightening me," it's a stubborn cope. be a better person.

The problem is that your autism makes you interpreted "aged" in a literal sense. Holy shit do you actually believe that people say that believing that a game physically changes over time or something?

Every game controls the same nowadays, especially shooters. From a gameplay perspective they are still unique, whether you think this is good or bad is up to you. Honstly I'd rather play janky Siphon Filter than a game I've already played a hundred times before despite being 'new'.

When it comes to early 3D, I think it depends on the genre. Action games like Tomb Raider and Syphon Filter were never good if you ask me, but stuff like Virtua Fighter and Quake will be great forever.

Most of those late 90s PC games look really bad. There's tons of console games that look great, mostly because that's where all the talent was.

>> No.5519658 [DELETED]

Its funny that OP picked syphon filter because that is one of the very few 32 bit action series i very much do not care for. Yes his run cycle looks cool, but getting him to tightly turn corners reliably without doing a dead stop and can be frustrating in certain areas. Switching to analog is a bit better but then I realized how frustrating and unrewarding the second one can be and then I dropped it.

>>5519636
>I think it depends on the genre
Why stop there? There's a lot of aspects of older games that can hinder the experience. For instance obtuse design conventions of the time can stick to a series simply because its what techniques developers are comfortable doing (or limited by)
