If you don't have an AES and/or you want something to tinker with it can be. I enjoy my MVS system quite a bit and it is one of my more used vidya. Games are cheaper overall but otherwise they are nearly identical and with a custom bios chip, they are identical aside from cart connection/size.

I have one of those. They are pretty good superguns. Make sure you get the model that has the knobs to adjust voltage and rgb levels.

I'm waiting on jamma extender so I can plug my cps2's but the mvs mv1fz works fine out of the box. It's the one of the best superguns you can get.
