Literally the best party member in earthbound. Only stats she doesn't exceed in are physical stats like hp and defense. She is the fastest party member with the most diverse and hardest hitting psi move pool. She is kind of an equivalent to a black mage.

Paula's magical frypan is probably the most annoying one to get. Only chomposaurs drop it. Trying to grind for encounters with them on the underworld map with the tiny sprites and the constant vulcano eruption interruptions for hours until the frypan decides to drop can be really hard to endure.
I still managed to get a "complete" file on the GBA version, I grinded the underworld for months I think, always played a few minutes here and there on the gb micro, especially on the shitter, it was somewhat relaxing. Last one I got was the Gutsy Bat.

They're not meant to be needed, they're just extra items for very lucky players. I grinded the hell out of the GBA version, as I commented before, because I was autistic enough and wanted a "100% file" but I also did it because it was on the GBA, otherwise I wouldn't have bothered to sit in front of the TV to grind for hours, it was just something I could do everywhere.
In another of my playthroughs, on the SNES, I got the SoK without even trying. I guess it's nice to be able to deal good physical damage with Poo, but it's not really necessary. All the other optional items I think aren't even the best for each character, I remember Paula's magical frypan wasn't the most powerful weapon for her (although I believe it had some side effect, like gave her more PP or something). Then there's some other 1/128 items like pendants that protect you from specific types of PSI attacks, but again, none of them really necessary. It just feels good if you get them by chance, but honestly I never got any outside of that SoK I once got without even trying.
