Is this the "shill your favorite controller" thread? If so then I just wanna tell you guys that the PDP Faceoff Wired Pro Controller for the Switch also works really well for emulation. All the buttons are responsive so it's not bad if you can get it for 25 bucks or less. The D-Pad being not as clicky as on the Xbox One controller or the 3DS is kind of a downer and you need to connect it through a cable so wireless/bluetooth ain't possible either so if that triggers you then I guess it might not be your controller after all but personally I'm very happy I got one on sale.

I had one for a few weeks and I was let down big time. Getting games to cooperate in Windows was a hot fucking mess and the dpad pushes into the controller which is a big problem in anything that makes heavy use of diagonals. I'll sometimes come to a dead stop especially if it's a platformer that lets me walk while crouched. Other than that it felt great and would've been perfection had it not been for those problems. I'd like to hope I just got a bum unit and may have better luck with a different model next time. I'll probably just wait for the licensed Retro Bit pads.

Works well on Windows if you can figure out the drivers, and Ubuntu's kernel has them baked in if you're fortunate enough to have GPU drivers that can even do 2D without jarring artifacts. Doesn't work on Android unless rooted or plugged in with OTG and it never stops charging when wired to a phone.

Different anon here. The quality of a D-pad is less about the shape of the hat and more about the switch and swivel mechanisms. My experience with an SN30 Pro has been that the D-pad doesn't firmly stay on its swivel point and the design of the contacts makes it too easy to input diagonals when you're trying to input verticals or horizontals.

According to a teardown I found somewhere (pic related) the PCB contacts don't have the same design flaws as on the SN30 Pro, but it's possible to press all four directions by pushing down in the center of the pad. What I haven't seen confirmed is how much more pressure it takes to input a diagonal than a horizontal/vertical. If you actually own one of these, can you try this right now?

Because I actually want a wireless PS1 controller, and the Ps2 ones work as well...sometimes. Some of the generic ones I have gotten have the shoulder buttons reversed...basically I have to take them apart and desolder the wires and flip them. R1 & R2 are switched, same as l1 & l2. I don't know why they do that.

I spent 2 hours repairing a unit last night that my 5 year old shit solder job failed on the right buttons. It was an easy fix, but in the process I broke their shitty solder joints. Thankfully I am much much better now then years ago, and it ends up it works better than I imagined. It is a good wireless controller, and was only $10 years ago. It has the proper shape of the Ps1/2 controller.

From now on I want controllers with 8 or more face buttons because fuck you

>My experience with an SN30 Pro has been that the D-pad doesn't firmly stay on its swivel point and the design of the contacts makes it too easy to input diagonals when you're trying to input verticals or horizontals.
This is why I'll never be able to trust another 8bitdo controller ever. It's a total crapshoot whether or not you get one of the best controllers on the market or the worst.

What about using a perfect balance cheat in Tony Hawk and grinding the lip of a small bowl/pool?

The diagonals thing was a well known design flaw, not a QC problem. There are a lot of posts about a tape mod for "fixing" it.

Legitimately better than the original.

I hope you're talking about the Japanese released one, the yank one was pure cancer.

I don't think anyone's talking about that thing, it's been a fucking while since I've seen anyone defend the old hockey puck.

Just got my M30. First impressions are good. D-Pad feels slick like butter and the buttons are fine. I wouldn't have minded if the pad was like an inch wider but it's not a big deal.

Would have asked about Tetris 99 (since it's free and all) but that's a no-go without analog sticks.
Mostly I'm just wondering if it takes more pressure to input a diagonal than a horizontal/vertical.

No, to me it feels pretty uniform.
