Yeah I put that line there because it's iconic for fans of the game as it was the first complete fan translation. Even without the goofy translation the game is awesome though. At least the SNES and PSX versions anyway (the GBA version was just poorly done especially the voice acting). The SNES version yes, had voice acting, on an SNES game.. just battle voices though. If you're familiar with the Tales series at all, you'll know that every special move a character uses is announced with voice. In this game in particular, physical techniques have Japanese names, but magic spells have English names, English apparently sounding more "mystical" to the Japanese.

So you'll hear "Majinken!" from Cless, "Fiyabaaaaallll!" from Arche and "Gnome!" from Klarth.

The battle system is real time, at least as far as Cless and the enemies are considered, the combat feels a bit like a 2D Fighting game, sort of like Smash Bros really with the control scheme for it. But casters still have a menu based system for casting spells or you can let them on autopilot and they'll cast spells on their own.

Really fun game.

The fan translation is pretty funny though.

You have to admit that by the time FFX came around everyone acted like VA in any RPG was a miracle of advanced science of the future when it had existed in RPGs that weren't FF for a little under a decade already.

I think that was his point by saying "OMG YES SOUND". People who don't play a lot of them but are trying to get into rpgs are surprised when they find our there's talking all the way back in the snes era.

I don't know why people act like this. But it happens more often than you give credit for.
