I'm designing what i think will be the perfecr retro gamepad, ps4 controller dimensions and triggers, overall shape is halfling of snes and genesis gamepad, genesis d-pad, snes-like buttons (convex and concave) but it has 6 face buttons, shoulder buttons are just like snes and has analogs with concave tops, the design is still on work before i can take it to the 3d printer but is a steady work

Just get a semi-decent USB bluetooth dongle + a DS4. Then you install DS4Windows and forget about everything as it just makes it act as an average XInput controller system wide, no hassle at all.

DS3 is discontinued and you won't find a genuine unused one anywhere anymore. Chink knock-offs suck ass, don't bother.

Yeah, uder shell its one material, but separation like that prevented any accidental press of 2 buttons, so polar opposite of Genesis Dpad.
I had few usb controllers and some dpads are so shit that you cannot hold right without accidentally pressing up/down, so I just got idea that maybe something like PS controller would work better - dpad wise

It depends on the game you're playing but there are different ways to use a dpad and certain designs work better for certain play styles. If you have a controller with a Genesis-style pad, don't lift up your entire thumb and press it down again on a different part of the pad. Instead, keep your thumb in the center, pretend it's a joystick, and rock around to the different directions you want to input. This is harder or easier to do depending on how much tactile feedback you have when you change directions. I have a Sega replica thing where you can feel a direction change absolutely every time, and there are no spurious diagonals like on most controllers. On my Dualshock 4 and PS Classic controller, it's a lot harder to tell when I'm changing directions, so I avoid using them for dpad-critical games.

Depends. I cycle between a Saturn controller, ASCII Pad FT, Fight Commander, and 360 controller. All with adapters. The first 3 for anything involving 2D and/or fightan games, the last for anything 3D.

or you can do what I did and call up Nintendo, tell them your dog ate one of your snes classic controller s and buy one for $10+$5shipping. then you either get a raphnet usb adapter (which will work with nes classic cons too) or get the 8bitdo snes classic wireless conversion kit which doesn't fuck with the dpad at all

Can confirm. I bought a DS4 to use with my PC and it just works. Couldn't be easier. Apparently it works without drivers in a few programs, but I installed DS4Windows for XInput support. Also, it has surprisingly low latency over Bluetooth.

I use mine for both old and new games and its perfect. D-pad is great, it has four shoulder buttons and no triggers, and unlike wii one, wiiU has clickable analog sticks(l3/r3) so its perfect for ps1 and ps2 emulation. It also has 80h battery life, so unlike something like DS4 you dont need to charge it every time you use it. Personally I think its the perfect controller.

Picked this up for 3 bucks not long ago. It's cheaply engineered and the cord is awful, but the D-pad is good, sticks don't have unreasonable deadzones, and buttons are responsive. I had the F510 which is the same as the 710 but not wireless. it was awful after a while. I remember playing Dark Souls and randomly smacking friendly npcs because it had a fucked up right trigger issue suddenly for no reason so it would spur that input randomly without me even touching it.
the whole d-pad also waggles and is kinda loose. so yeah, the analog triggers are jammed somehow and the d-pad is okay but a bit loose.

never had these issues with my ds3.

no, you might have luck on wiiU as its homebrew has some support for usb controllers(haven't tested that personally since wiiU pro controller is perfection). Another option would be adapters either from wiimote, or from gamecube ports. Problem is that only raphnet-tech makes such adapters and they are expensive because that guy is the only one making them.

If you're planning to game on an iPhone you need a dedicated "Made for iOS" controller. If you're on Android or PC, the easiest thing to find with the best build quality is a Dualshock 4.
8BitDo's main selling points are compatibility with retro consoles (for custom 2.4GHz models) and the Switch (for Bluetooth models). They can be used in wired mode on a PC, but in wireless mode their input lag is particularly bad. If what you're after is authentic-looking replicas of old controllers, be aware that they stopped making those for legal reasons, and they're getting hard to find. Some other brands like Retroflag still make very accurate USB replicas of old controllers.

I have an 8bitdo SN30. It's like a SNES controller, but with dual analogue sticks and dual shoulder buttons (like a PSX controller). I lurves it.... the Dpad and face buttons feel EXACTLY like a real SNES controller. Like, spot-on.
