I tend to disagree because it's basically a grindfest with all the money you need to collect to gain power-ups, how easy it is to lose those power-ups by getting hit once and have almost zero reach with your basic weapon. Not to mention the time limit which is completely useless in the first place because you either lost all your lives long before the timer ends or you're being stressed out because of grinding cause yeah, good luck beating the boss at the end of the stage without doing that. Oh and do I have to mention how you have to back to the beginning of the stage every time you get a game over, which resets EVERYTHING you gained? And no, passwords aren't helpful either cause if you've only got little health and a few items left you might as well save state your whole playthrough because it would basically come down to that.

If you don't care about any of that then feel free to like LotMN but I regret buying it a year ago. After people telling me how awesome the game is it let me down big time. The only thing I really like about it is the music and the fact you can play a segment of Gradius and that's it, I personally wouldn't recommend it.

It's indeed supposed to be quite red, that's because i'm emulating a really old crt which has some internal components starting to fail and overdriving the red phosphor gun, now the red phosphors are more bright, ro the point they can cause glow by themselves (glow is caused when r g and b phosphors output max bright for white color) and bleed onto other colors, the shader config is to recreate how games would look on many crts out there right now (most crts in the wild are at least a decade old right now) rather than how they would look back then on a brand new crt.

It's pretty good, but not perfect.
The action is pretty fun, but quite a lot of encounters has you locked into an arena and makes you kill all the monsters before you can progress, which feels strongly formulaic, the original games, nor Doom 3, did this kind of thing very often at all.

Melee finishers are pretty satisfying, but some find them very repetitive, the chainsaw is now basically a Automatic Melee Finisher Device, with a really cool animation, using one or more units of its fuel to let you auto-kill enemies (bigger enemies require more fuel). The game gives you enough fuel over the levels that you'll use it and have fun with it, and you can upgrade how much you can carry, and while its cool in its own way, I still can't help but miss the saw from Doom 3, which was very powerful, and had this exciting risk-reward potential, where if you were brave about it, you could take on most enemies in the game with it.
Weapons can be upgraded, generally for different alt-fires, for instance the machinegun can have either a scope (that lets you do some more damage), or it can have a micro rocket launcher battery, which lets you pelt enemies with a swarm of explosives, for the cost of common machinegun ammo, and then the shotgun can be upgraded either to fire a burst of shotgun shells, or to launch a grenade. Later weapons have more exciting upgrades, like making the rocket launcher detonate rockets on your command.

There's some decent exploration and searching for secrets, which is nice, and though a lot of the levels are steel corridor Mars bases, or outdoors Mars, they do a decent job in differentiating areas and making them look more distinct and interesting.

Considering I actually didn't really have any expectations for the game, and that apparently the development cycle was an ungodly quagmire of restarting development a dozen times, it's pretty good.
It's very well optimized too, running fine on even pretty modest computers.

Whenever I look at the Oracle games and other handheld games of the era I'm reminded of how much I dislike how most pixel art trying to emulate 8-bit artwork uses the NES's palette, which is incredibly limited and ugly compared to something like the GBC or NGPC. NES games live and die on their colour palettes and there's a huge gap between games that were careful with their colours and those that weren't, particularly later on in the lifecycle.

here is a thing:

MOST OF OLD 2 D GAMES look great these days. 2D art don't age. Simple as that.
2D game can be shitty only if the art is not very good (the artist was a shitty one and used muddy colors or weird proportions).

God it's so obvious that you only came into this thread so you could post your fucking awful filter. Particularly with the fact that you picked a segment of the game where you can't see anything even without your piece of shit shaders. You could have picked anywhere in the game and you picked the darkened room. Either play on a real CRT or grow the fuck up and stop trying to relive that fuzzy nostalgia.

Alcahest does look pretty good when you can actually see it though. The ground tiles are a bit repetitive though.

Those games were released before the SNES took over the legacy of the NES, so NES games still had an inkling of effort put into them. Compare them to genuine EOL games where the developers put no effort into the games. Pic related is the very last official NES release.

The sjw article is about how that girl who does the cucking is NOT a fan favorite in japan (an understatement to say the least) and how this is misogyny.
It then attacks the fantranslators for writing "i don't like/understand this heroine" (only that much is enough) in personal blogs because "they were exporting that hate", and attacks the "misogynist" fanbase (the people who LIKE the game)

Someone at hg101 is exploring ways to use the power of the blue pill against anyone who doesn't share his netotare cuckoldry fetish.

Bahamut Lagoon is still a fan favorite in Japan.
A few NPCs in it are not... How are those two facts mutually exclusive?

All I see is a neckbeard crying "anyone who does not like my favorites is not a true fan", now with basedsauce wrapping. Get over it, No one cares about, or must share your shit preferences you have the gall of trying to shame others into, pathetically. In particular that netotare fetish of yours you keep bringing up as the main draw behind the game but is just a secondary game event.
If you're insecure there's healthier ways to deal with it than to yell about the incel insurrection conspiring against you and the game, or going after the fantranslator for not doing a "good enough job" of dressing it up as a "subversive, good story".

NGPC has aged so well in my opinion. Just real clean and colorful sprites and great backgrounds. Superb animations that are simple but because those sprites are big and clean they express a lot of the action going on.
The style is rarely imitated and even more rarely imitated correctly. When you think this device has over 20 hours of battery life on two AAs, a micro switched stick and pressure sensitive buttons it was truly a masterpiece device that came out a year or two too late.

>> No.5510775

>Aren't the games themselves rendering in pixels? A sprite is made of colored squares (pixels) which are drawn by a CRT (not pixels).
Yes, but pixels aren't colored squares, they're just the smallest controllable picture elements. While they *can* be represented as perfect squares, there's nothing that mandates that raster images comprised of pixels have to be done that way, or that square pixels is the only way to have something be "pixel-perfect".
Instead of tightly arranged square pixels, you could just as well have evenly spaced round pixels with noticable gaps between them and it would be just as pixel-perfect a representation as one made with square pixels.

>> No.5511731

>>5510775
And SNES doesn't even have square pixels, due to the internal resolution the snes process rectangular pixels.
