I realize this was over a week ago, but I haven't looked at the retro FPS thread in a while. Hopefully you're still here.

In E4M2, once you get to the top of the stairs, grab the radsuit and immediately jump off the cliff into the lava. Make your way back up to the start, and you'll see that the pillar in the middle of the level opens up to reveal a teleporter. Sprint over to it, and you'll telefrag the cybie and get the BFG.

I fall in and out of love with Doom where I'll be deeply obsessed with playing and then I'll just not touch it for a while. But even in my down moments, I'll still sometimes open up E4M2 in UV and play through it. I love it a lot.

How does he not find it ridiculous that a 9 level vanilla episode took pre-orders two months before the planned release, and then got delayed (twice) to three months after that planned release? It's been in development for 4 or 5 years. So yeah. DAKKA's problem is Ijon is quietly working on it and not really spreading the word about it.
But really that's fine, Ijon has been making something fantastic and if there's ever a true official release and more word gets around, it'll knock people flat on their asses.

Ijon's always been a quiet guy, he's responsible for some crazy shit that's been pulled off over the years on Doom mods, having worked on Samsara and Metroid Dreadnaught, I'm sure he's worked on more than just that, and his code has been referenced a lot in other mods.
I know I've taken some of that code for my own mods, the guy is an unsung hero

Also for another good example of the crazy shit Ijon has done and a good resource in general is Lelweps, though some other people made weapons there, he made the most I think.
He also made that exploding Doomguy head you punch in the DUMP 3 weaponset. Which spurred me to make the pocket revenants because I wasn't about let Ijon out weird me back then

Man I would love to make a mod for doom... but, I feel like most of my ideas are realized in other mods. Namely half the shit in term and your mods. The doomslayers BFG replacement in GMOTA feels like it was pulled right out of my brain.

I had an idea where the only way to get health was from the blood of enemies, and all the health pickups were ammo or smaller powerups. I would run with that if i was going to make anything.

I made a post on my Tumblr listing resources and shit. Can't get at it right now as I'm trying and failing to get some sleep. I'll reply to this post and yours later with the link, but the gist of the post was:

Get SLADE
Bookmark Zdoom wiki
Bookmark Realm667
Grab paint.net or GIMP for sprite stuff (or aseprite if you wanna pay for something decent, I swear by it)

After that, just grab some guns from Realm667, crack them open in SLADE and figure out what makes them tick. Same thing for monsters. Opening up other mods is a good way to learn shit too.
