I mean it obviously is? Survival horror is a meme genre, they're weighted for babies and casuals so anyone who can actually play a game ends up with way too much ammo and health all the time and it's just a question of dumb puzzles and memorizing jumpscares or scripted boss fights.

That honestly explains it, all I could think about when I was playing through the Drytown segment was how unbearably hot it must've been because I've been to Arizona and I know how it feels, while at the same time thinking about how extremely unbearably cold Aya's legs must be when it turned from day to night. Drytown never felt comfortable to me, just thinking about it is burning the skin right off the back of my neck.

The Police Station in the first game was much more comfy.

Sonic 2 is probably hands down the best Sonic game in the franchise period. Best game mechanics. Smooth fluid gameplay. Fun and decent enemies. And it had literally the best sound track in any of the Sonic games. Also the levels were amazing and memorable. I can't recall a single fucking level in Sonic 1 or 3, but I remember Metropolis Zone, Oil Ocean Zone, Mystic Cave, and of course the legendary Casino Night Zone.

Starlight Zone, Marble Garden, Angel Island, Ice Cap and Spring Yard are all better than any stage in Sonic 2.
Also Oil Ocean sucks until Mania, Mystic Cave has a pit where if you're Super Sonic you literally cannot do anything but wait for your rings to run out if you fall into it and Metropolis is just retreading Scrap Brain Zone.

Oil Ocean is a hard stage in a game people constantly criticize for being too easy, having one stage where you can get lost easily towards the end of a game is good. Likewise, having one "fuck you completely" trap in an entire game like the one is Mystic Cave is also fine, if you fall in there once you're going to remember it and avoid it on every subsequent playthrough. If it was easy to fuck up and fall in the pit over and over you'd have a point but you pretty much have to jump into it intentionally. Also, all of the traps and elevators/movement devices in Scrap Brain and Metropolis are different. When the enemy is an mad robot builder I'm really not sure what else you can do with a "getting close to the final confrontation" level than a bunch of mechanical shit trying to kill you. Sonic 2 is the peak of the series, 1 doesn't go far enough and 3/S&K is good but also has several bad design decisions

I cannot fucking believe nobody posted picture related yet, or even mentioned it. It's like an ideal version of what a video game sequel should be. Don't think there's a better sequel in the history of the medium, honestly. Maybe DMC3, or MGS2?

I don't know if it surpassed DC1 since all in all the two games are rather different in what they were trying to do, but it has to be said that the fact that they took that control scheme and turned it into a successful run and gun arcade title is fucking insane. You could also say AC2 was a gigantic improvement over Air Combat. Though I think that AC3 tends to be overrated in certain regards, the split campaign system isn't as amazing as it seems, honestly. There's plenty of similar shit in all of the routes, it's not like they go wildly different depending on which corporation you pick.
