Im organizing my Nes, Snes, N64, Genesis and PS controllers on plastic bins i just got and im having troubles with the cables.

Nes and Snes controllers have REALLY stiff cables, not sure if its due to age or if they were stored in a dry and hot environment and the cable just got really stiff.

Has any of you seen this before? what can i do to loosen up the cables so they can wrap in a loop easier? i feel like they are going to break when im twisting it.

This goes for any cord, not just controller cords, but in general you shouldn't wrap tight, nor you fight too hard against the cord's memory. Doing either just risks twisting up the wiring within.

I know, but these cable are sooo fucking stiff i cant even extend them completely, if i hold the controller upside down, the cable just stays in the exact same position, a zig zag.

Im thinking about soaking them in a cloth with alcohol to see if the plastic losens up a bit. Im afraid of breaking them now that im storing them nicely and holding the cables in a loop with velcro belts

there's a special way to wrap cords so they don't get tangled. you should be able to wrap it like in your picture if not somethings definitely wrong. try rubbing alcohol on a paper towel to clean it

>feel like they are going to break when im twisting
Probably shouldn't be "twisting" then

>not sure if its due to age
It is. As you mature you'll get stronger and the cables will be easier for you to bend

>holding the cables in a loop with velcro belts
That's the best you're going to do. You can use something like Armor All on the cables.

I honestly prefer my controller cables to be a big tangled mess than wrap them around so tightly like that (or even not so tightly)

Also DON'T use rubber bands, if you keep them wrapped for too long, they'll "melt" and make a disgusting mess. Try to use zipties or something

I think this happens exactly because they stayed tangled for too long, my Master System controller has the same problem

Soak your cords in Armor All.

Look up over under cable wrapping, its a way to remove even years of tension from your wires with relatve ease
