I'm looking to buy a third party memory card for the original Playstation. Particularly because the 15 blocks of save data aren't enough and I'm running out of space on my old one. What are some good off brand cards that have a shitton of storage space and don't corrupt? I recently bought a Tomee card for my Gamecube and that one was pretty good.

>> No.5473227

Don't. Third party cards are trash and sooner or later you WILL lose your data. If the 16 blocks aren't enough for you, then get multiple cards.

This.

This is the one true answer. First party cards are cheap enough. All off-brand multi-page cards will fail eventually, destroying countless hours of work. Many of us know from personal experience.

Yep happened to my buddy back in the day. Lost all his 60-100 hour save files for all of his games at once. Tangentially related, last year I lost the saves from an official memory card due to static electricity. So careful with that too everyone

Third party, and multi-page cards were notorious for failing and corrupting saves. I would steer clear from them. I just play PS1 and PS2 on my PS3 since I can just keep making new cards if I need to. If you really want to try your luck however, memory cards from the brands Performance and InterAct are everywhere.

use original MCs and backup old unneeded saves on a usb-stick using a ps2+ulaunchelf.
done and done.

I'm surprised there isn't SD card replacements by now honestly.

OP here. Turns out I can make room by just offloading my PSX saves to PS2 cards. The kicker is that I can't load off a PS2 card which I don't understand why. But whatever.

because ps1-games don't know about ps2-mc-encryption-shit (magicgate).

I was looking to buy a box of PS1 memory cards. I handed the guy a few bucks and walked away with over a dozen. All original, some NIB.

>>5474810
There are. You just need a 128k SD so it's compatible.

I've been told it'll work with usb/serial adapter.

This. In my experience I've had issues with the generic 'Memory Card 1 Mega' that gets sold everywhere. It's like it doesn't get enough voltage or something, making it hard to save at times (on the SOTN for example the wireframe coffin on during game saves is spinning for far longer than with an official card and sometimes won't stop at all, requiring a reboot), and especially when using with a multitap.

If you have a modded PS2, you can make backups of your Save files to a USB stick, both of PS1 and PS2, and free space on your MCs.

I've read the same thing, but I'm a little worried about having to run virtual machine because the software is so old, which would make the serial/usb converter harder to work.
Please hurry, eBay delivery.

Please explain how, I'm confused with all those boot elf things.
My ps2 has a Matrix Infinity, if it helps.

- have a compatible ps2 (any model but scph-9000x)
- have an empty ps2-memory-card
- burn a cd using an ISO which has ulaunchelf (search for it
- extract the fmcb-installer onto a fat32-usb-stick
- boot the cd with the usbstick-plugged in
- in the file browser, navigate to the usb-stick (mass:) and launch the installer
- follow the instructions
- when finished, take out the cd and reset the console with the FMCB'd memory-card plugged in
tadaa.

>Dexdrive

Have you checked to see if your motherboard has a block of RS-232 header pins on it somewhere? Most still do, even today. Of course if you only have a laptop then yeah a USB -> serial adapter is probably your only hope.

just us a ps2, as mentioned a dozen times already.
