AA has a new enemy type that's an alien who phases in and out of being 'visible', but also the sprites clearly have an outline and they can still be shot while invisible. This one behaves like one, but has no sprites, can't be shot and can't be MDK'd.
If you're bitching about the gun that's just final doomer which doesn't change shit regarding monsters, the gore is Nashgore, but i'm sure you're already steaming about brootlfags so i'll leave you alone.

Depends on if your using additive or subtractive colouring

One solution is to make the blue range Ultraviolet.
- top few colors are sky blue
- a couple colors that are blue-violet
- then becomes a bluish purple (around hue 270-290)
- also the 4-5 colors at the end of the palette that are pink can be some form of cyan that leads to a slate blue
- to go along with it the last 8 colors of the Pink-Maroon range should be darker and fade towards purple, which would give the bloody floors and chaingunner armor a richer look.

Plasma projectiles would be even more impressive, the blue keycard could still generally be considered "blue" and the blue floor tiles would still be a dark color. Health bonuses would be purplish, I dont got a problem with that though.

I also tend to think that the Gray colors should be some form of alternating off-white so that the grays in the game dont seem as clean as they do. Not much saturation at all maybe 5-7% at most but alternating hues (green and yellow looks particularly dirty when desaturated). Also provides the ability to do better color interpretation for new sprites.
To make up for the lack of cyans and sky blue the topmost gray colors should probably be some form of bright cyan that quickly fades to the off-white grays. Really give the game that retro blue-metal chrome look from the 80s.

not sure what you're going at here
but if you want a much less random result from damage values then replace all the actors that cause damage and change the "damage" line
you can come up with a custom randomizing string and copypasta it, multiplying it by the projectile damage, keeping it the same as vanilla if you want it
good ideas to pick from:

[Amount] * randompick(1,2,3,3,3,3,4,4,4,4,4,5,5,5,5,5,6,6,6,6,7,8)
[Amount] * ( (random(1,8)+random(1,8)+random(1,8)) / 3 )
[Amount] * random(3,6)
[Amount] * ( (frandom(20,70) + frandom(20,70) + frandom(20,70)) / 30)

Using frandom will give you fine tuned results instead of even multiples of 3, 5, 8, 10 or whatever.
Keep in mind you have to take the whole thing and put it in parenthesis otherwise zdoom will multiply everything that you supplied by the standard RNG 1-8 again. Eg for imp fireball:
damage ( 3 * random(3,6) )

I usually give a tight range for the rocket launcher such as random(70,110) and dont even multiply it by a projectile damage value.
You can do the same for all the other projectiles too but I figure a copypasta is easier to achieve.
It would be nice to override the "damage" formula with a custom function in zscript so that you didnt have to replace actors and the projectile damage values as listed wouldnt have to be altered, though.

Main problem here is that the character body is a trapezoid with thin upper and wide bottom, while it is more natural to have wider upper and ither equal or a bit thinner bottom .
The "wrongness" of the form creates illusion of looking from below, hich is immediately shattered by the fact that everything else tells you you are looking from an equal level.
This clash of supposed perspectives results in an intense "uncanny valley" feel, at least for me.

The character art is full of bad anatomy and broken perspectives across the board. This title screen art is honestly only example of a humanoid figure in the whole game that doesn't look like they have the wrong number of chromosomes - sadly, commissioning the same artist for the sprite work obviously wasn't in the budget.

That aside, though, the the environment art is great, and the plays well. It's very much like Unreal with a hint of Hexen.

You WILL get lost if you don't pay attention to the environment and make an effort to follow the story.

I definitely consider it worth playing. Ridicule the guy's anatomy and sexual fetishes all you like, but he's done a great job over all.

Those were some good ass levels dude. My only nitpick is that some walls with sharp angles look kinda weird, If you put a support texture between the 2 lines, it looks more natural. The other issue I found was in level 3 where a shotgun was sticking through a wall. Other than that, you make some killer maps man. I finished level 3 with 100 health, 189 armor, 40 shells and 118 bullets playing continuously.

Sure. Just casting iron in a mold by hand isn't that great for a weapon, but you CAN cast like a bronze sword in that manner, and it actually won't be terrible (not as good as steel, but you can still use it as a sword). An added benefit is that bronze is very easy to just melt down and recycle, so if you wanted to turn the sword into something else, or if it was irreparably damaged, you could just melt it down and cast it again.

Looking at more contemporary weapons, investment casting can be used to make steel gun parts, and as long as you do it right, and give them a good heat treat, they'll be every bit as strong as a forged or machined part.
Pic related is a Ruger Blackhawk, it's made with investment cast steel parts, and is considered above average in terms of strength and durability, these guns being more suited for stronger than average loads than a lot of comparable revolvers in the same calibers.

What are solid builds people have gotten to work in DRL? I have a lot of luck working off the chaingun. I'm not a huge fan of reloading every shot on the shotgun; the good capacity and killing power of the chaingun are strong contenders early on.

But I keep ending up in pinky mosh pits and it fucking sucks and I have no illusions that this is some hard part of the game. I'm fucking up and clearly missing something when it comes to these big bads.

Am I a turd for picking Marine? Should I be picking Scout instead? Should I be focusing on melee? Is the only way to be the Shotgun way to be?

I think I got to floor 4 once. I cleared the Hell Arena fully once, too, that was really fun although I nearly shit a brick when Hell Knights came flying at me.

I seem to have problems getting a strong start. There's a lot of times where I just end up mulched by enemies-- that's even considering strategies like making them show up single-file, or trying to bait them into shooting each other, or just gunning down from the strongest enemy upward.

I also get fucked up by barrels a lot, had two or three runs where floor 2 just spawned me in a room full of barrels and shotgun grunts/commandos/imps. Fuck.

Played HUMP Mini (Heretic Upstart Mapping Project). Pretty damn solid pack, besides a couple annoying maps. The last map (before pictured end map) was really frustrating, you only get the gauntlets and a trickle of wand ammo, and have to rely on strategic item usage to survive. Which, despite being creative / experimental, is just not fun like normal gameplay is.

A monster mod idea i've had is the base Doom 2 roster having abilities and moves taken from their counterparts in later Doom titles.

I cobbled together a semi-fucky mighty foot minimod for myself for this reason.
High power laser rifle on Marine is comfy, storm handcannon on Scout is a decent easy find, nano SSG is a solid cheese gun if lucky with the nano mod.

It's always sad to see a tremendous ammount of work and effort of a person who definitely can do better go to waste,
