Other than Earthbound and a few post-PS2 DQ games, are there any other JRPGs with a first person battle system AND visible, non-random battles?

Though not entirely first person, lufia II

Phantasy Star 1 and 3 had first person battles. Not so much for non random fights.

Chrono Trigger satisfies half of those parameters

Won't do, I need both.
I've kinda grown font of first person battles lately, so simple yet so efficient.

Mystic Quest on the SNES is pretty damn close. It's like second person since you're still technically on screen, but remove that sprite and it'd easily look like a DQ game.

You know I never thought I'd actually be recommending this but try some of the more popular RPGMaker games.

The default battle system is front-on and I've seen a few of the more polished ones use overworld encounters.

Oh, also Final Fantasy Legends II also known as SaGA 2 is one of my favourite games from the Gameboy, it has first person but only random battles.

The remake for the DS however for some reason added overworld monsters that chase you and such. You'l need to find a fan-translated one and they made the game a touch easier than the original but I highly recommend at least looking into it.

>JRPGs
Don't think so.
WRPGs on the other hand... how about every single Might & Magic game past (and including) 3.

>> No.548228

Chrono Trigger is the only other game I can think of that wasn't random and where you actually saw your enemies before you fought

What game is that on the picture?
