This.
Or look around the reverse castle's entrance where the mermen were in the normal version, you'll find an acessory that absorbs electric.

Equip the beryl circlet. It makes lighting damage heal you, so he heals you while you whack away at him.

It's vital to learn how to bait out his lightning rain attack where he steps forward and holds his mace out horizontally. Quickly pass his leg with the must then go wild on his legs. Attacks that can hit multiple times at once are also helpful, as each of his limbs can take damage.

Legit mode: Learn patterns and react accordingly
Easy mode: Get the Beryl Circlet in the inverted castle entrance tunel with the bat
Baby mode: Dual crissaegrims
Fuck it mode: Alucard shield and Shield rod

There is a way to get trapped in the left side of the screen so none of his attacks actually hit you, but I don't remember how it was done. The first time I got to this boss, I had to defeat him with a piece of shit sword that did like 60 damage per swing. Imagine hacking away at this piece of shit for 7, 8 minutes. If I hadn't found that sweet spot, I would have never defeated him.

Mind you, this was way back in 1998, when I had no internet and magazines didn't post stuff like Crissaegrim or Shield Rod.

>> No.5444757

I regret back then not starting a new save after I luckshitted into a crissaegrim (or just not using it) and making almost the whole game a joke.

This seems to be a consistent problem with all Metroidvanias. I haven't played one that rally punished me for sloppy playing.

>> No.5450046

Circle Of The Moon is pretty sparse with healing items, sporadic with card drops, and has a seriously fucking hard Dracula, there's also different character modes, which change how you play the game.
Aria and Dawn have unlockable hard modes, which do some to make a better challenge, they also feature alternate character modes.

I think what makes Symphony so easy is that there's a whole bunch of items you can stumble into which make the game pretty easy. You have the Shield Rod, Crissaegrim, Mourneblade, Moon Rod, etc, items which are seriously powerful. They are fun, but they also make the game really easy.
Another thing is that the upside down castle, I don't think it's actually very well thought out overall, like it's an idea they got late in development, and didn't have a lot of time to refine it.
