Is it worth it to play the remake for the new game+?

>> No.5441102

No.

How about for the other features? I plan on playing all of them and I just beat 1 with the retranslation for sms. After hating the art direction and the difference in ost I abandoned the remake of 1 for the og and I’m wondering if I’d feel the same. I do like how they updated the battle system with blocking, charging up attacks and the special abilities they introduced.

>new game+
There is no new game+. There is a hidden route when you import a complete save from Generation 1 but it's impossible to trigger without a guide.
Go try the different versions to see what suits your taste.

I see, I guess the review I read mislead me. See I would try both but then it actually make it harder to decide than if I just jump in. Can you tell me more about the hidden route?

have you even seen the remake, it's revolting

The art design or what is revolting?

You can revive Nei after she gets killed.
It's a lot of effort for very little gain.

And I’ve seen only bits and pieces of both.

Budget tier graphics with really ugly art. Soundtrack is a bad remix with weak synths.

This is like reviving Leo, Schala or Aeris - you just don't do that shit.

It's horrible style-wise.
Just play the normal PS2.

>> No.5441221

The hidden route requires clear data from the first PS1 remake, which you say you didn't do, and then completing PS2 remake with it. Essentially double clear game data.

To access the new content, you talk to every npc, including shop keeps, sometimes in a specific order, so there's no way you're accessing the content without having a guide. They did not make it easy.

And whether you want to play a game twice in the first place would depend on if you like the game a lot. So play it, whatever version you want, read what the new content is, and then get clear game save data somewhere to experience it if you think it's worth the effort.

>> No.5441225

Does the remake have the same awful dungeons and random battles every other step like in the original? That shit is worse than Skies of Arcadia.

Putting aside the terrible art (and bad gameplay changes) of the PS2 version.

Crisp and Clear Original:

Indistinct, busy remix with ridiculous rhythm changes:

The whole soundtrack is like that. So you have gamplay changes, bad graphics, and terrible music. Avoid.

If you don't like the dungeons, why are you playing Phantasy Star 2? Its a dungeon crawler.

You can buy covert ocarinas from shops and straight walk through a lot of the game.

>>5441231
If it's really that bad, then you don't need to cherry pick a 240p recording someone made cycling through the in game sound test to make the remake look worse.

>> No.5441292

The soundtest is the in-game music.

Okay, hear me out Anon. You'll need a lot of patience to play this one, It is really outdated, the story is not all the well told it could be, it is a heavy grindy experience and you need to have the maps for the dungeons. Otherwise, prepare for hell.

You are better off playing Phantasy Star IV instead honestly.

Now, if you still want to play II then, go with the original genesis version. Another good option is to get the Switch one, since you can fast forward.

Since you appear to have a sensible sense of aesthetics I expect you'll hate the PS2 remake visuals and music butchery as well.

This is kind of a confusing post, considering the remake (of the game you refer to as PS2) released on PS2.

>> No.5442459

The normal Phantasy Star 2.
Yeah I thought it was confusing too.
The generic bad art style and music aren't worth it. The game will leave a better impression in its original form.

I decided to go with the original. I found some mods to help fix the dialog and the bugs, that from my reading, plagued the genesis version. I won’t be starting it for a bit because someone I know that works at an office supply store offered to print, laminate and spiral bind the original hint book that came with the genesis version for free! I beat phantasy star 1 in 2 days and I’m curious to how long it take to beat this one. I’m emulating so I can fast forward battles to make the grind a bit easier and I work a lot so keep that in mind when giving a time estimate.
