Has anyone here ever tried to use one of these? How was it like?

>> No.5438646

Yes. It's super fucking cool, really - comes with its own set of sprites and backgrounds you can dick around with and program basic games with. It's more of an introductory course in BASIC than anything, but you can definitely write some neat things, and it would've been really cool if you didn't have access to a computer at the time.

>> No.5438656

It's something like Apple II Integer BASIC. Mostly a teaching tool/toy and you can't write very long programs with it nor does it support floating point arithmetic.

Tons of good stuff was written in basic but you can be forgiven for not knowing that because it all happened long before you were born. Memory was always a problem with interrupted HLLs but the real killer for all these babies first basics was the difficulty in inputting, saving and exchanging.
This wasn't even limited to basic. I remember paying a fuckton for the TI EA, memory, expansion box, disc, etc and being able to share my shit with the one other person I knew who had all that.
Game basic was a great system where you could use an entire CD, provided you could make your own copy protected disks. For Everyone who wasn't sega you were limited to floppies that only worked in the drive no one had.
The wonder witch was the first real hobbyist friendly dev system which is why despite only selling in Japan and only selling like 3 copies there were some awesome home brew WS games long before homebrew became a hipster milking kickstarter machine.

I'm not obsessed but old 2d games look like shit on lcd displays.
Only remedy on modern displays is punping your lcd's contast to max and fucking around with retroarch shaders.
The best one for me is crt.geom since i compared it side to side with my crt and the image is almost the same.
Plus that is the only shader that reproduces the fog effect from Silent Hill 1.
It properly gives the fog a blue-ish tint like on my crt.

I know, they're real artifact phrases, but these days it's largely used to describe general wealth and technological development, stemming from the fact that most first world countries during the Cold War were well developed and prosperous, second world countries being commies, obviously were very behind on that curve, and many third world countries were small and poor places which either had almost zero presence in international politics, and/or kind of hoped to god they wouldn't have to get involved in the dickfencing between NATO and the Warsaw Pact.

It's kind of one of those peculiar ways that language develops.
The Swiss were third world by the original definition, because they were unaligned, but they were (and still are), one of the wealthiest and most prosperous nations in the world.
People don't think of Switzerland when they hear the phrase "third world".

Not even remotely to the same degree. I can have a light on in the room, or have daylight shining in through the window, and as long as I don't have the lamp or sun shining directly on the screen, the glare is almost never ever noticeable, whereas with a CRT, the screen will reflect light like a mirror.
