Hi there. I'm from Russia. Just wanted to ask you, how do english speaking people calls the set of lives. I mean, if you have lost all of your lives you see "continue?" screen and can have 3-4 attemps.

In Russia we call it "continuum" because as kids we didn't know, how to translate "continue?"
Also we have a joke: A cat has 9 lives and 3 continuums.
(sorry for my poor English)

Extra lives, or just lives is probably the most typical way of referring to them.

We call them "continues" or "credits".

That's pretty fucking good.

Guys, men or lives

I say lives.

Can someone explain to me why Konami uses "Rest"?

But live and continue are different. How many lives has a cat? 9? 3? 27?

He means continues or credits

In Japan we say 'tries' or even label individual lives as 'players'.

Makes me think that Konami mistook "Rest" for "Left".
"You Have 2 Left (Rest?)"

Is this a modern or regional thing? Because I got a different impression from watching GCCX.

Rest is the noun for remaining.

yep, they used to always call them "men" in the really old days. I've nothing else to add, just most people are retarded and need to be told something more than once.

OP's question is about continues, not lives

>> No.5424712

>>5424413

I'd call them "chances".
When using a continue you get another chance consisting of several lives.

these.

Credits or continues are used mostly in arcade games, lives is more typical in console games.

>> No.5424916

Usually people just use "continue" as a noun for what you're describing, individual lives can be "lives", "tries", "chances", "men", "Marios", etc.
