Was playing Castlevania SoTN as Richter, but fuck all that shit. Once I got to the inverted castle, the increased difficulty seems to be more for big fans than casual scrubs like me. I may restart Final Fantasy Tactics, but I don't know if I am committed to 60+ hours on a game right now.

A friend of mine gave me his Sega Genesis and Sega CD combo a few weeks ago. Always wanted a Sega CD. I went ahead and burned a little over a dozen games to play, trying out the jarpigs first.

I started with Vay. It's ok for what it is I guess. At least there's a fairly quick run option.

Been playing Dragon Warrior 1 lately (NES version). My second attempt at this game after I dropped it years ago at the earlier stages. Already level 8, currently doing some exploration and stacking up money to buy the sword worth 1,500 GP. That cave south of Kol looks like my next step, but the skeletons are a bit too tough for my chracter right now, hope there aren't even more powerful enemies in that mysterious dungeon...

It's definitely just this one game. The only possible cause that comes to mind is when I changed the battery by soldering a replacement in. I suppose it's entirely possible I fucked something up hard but I took a meter to the surrounding components and found nothing out of the ordinary which is why I'm baffled.

At the moment I have my little brother in law over. He and I are making the rounds in old games that pique his interest.
Mario Kart, Twisted Metal 2, Crash Bandicoot, and Super Mario World seem to be the ones he likes a lot.
He also tried Pokemon Red on an original Gameboy, and was amazed at how we played games without backlights or color back then.

Yes, I've been using 1.3 patch and it still crashes anytime I try to load a save on The Vault. I did decide to use the companions, since I wanted to experience Daikatana's main gimmick. Aside from occasionally killing some enemies though, they've been pretty useless, so I'm thinking of starting over and using level skip to get back to where I am now without them.

I had considered both of these ideas but I'm concerned where that extra power is going. Presumably it's in the form of heat and while the GB runs very cool even after hours of playing I don't want to push it with a direct link to my household power, I think I'll just buy another copy of the $10 game or break down and emulate it. Also fun fact: this is my second copy of the game after the first one had a large slash across the contacts with a knife, rendering it unplayable until repaired. Third time's the charm I guess.

Not that poster, but you do realize that some systems absolutely will not offer any drivers at all for windows xp? Not saying that it won't install, but that once you are there, you are somewhat fucked on chipsets and other goofy shit that they never intended to make compatible with XP. The other week I tried to cram XP onto a 5 year old 1.3ghz AMD APU system, and it basically was a pain in the ass from start to finish with totally unsatisfying results. Somehow it seemed to run correct under linux

After trying to play through E1M7 of Daikatana at least 10 times without being able to save, and always dying at the same shitty ass platforming section, I've decided to give up on it. I wanted to at least make it to Episodes 2 and 3 since that's supposedly where the game gets better, but I just can't keep doing that same shitty level over and over when the area I have the biggest trouble with comes almost ten minutes into the level and thanks to saves crashing, I can't just replay that one specific section. From what I played, the game is painfully mediocre at the best of times and aggravatingly shitty at its worst. It definitely deserves its negative reputation, and I regret buying it when it was on sale for $1.

I'm really not sure why loading a save would crash your game like that. There's a post on the GOG forums that suggests that it could have something to do with enabling "unlimited saves" on a save that previously had it disabled.

Enabling cheats should be difficult though, just go to your Daikatana shortcut and add +set console 1 to the end of the target. Then, when you're in-game press ~ and the console will appear, then you just need to type cheats 1, reload or start a new game and you'll be able to use cheats.
