I've been running through some psx jrpgs and so far every one I've played have been great. I can wholeheartedly recommend :

Lunar silver star story complete
Star Ocean the second story
Grandia

Recommendations: Squaresoft stuff is usually good (xenogears is an unfinished mess and chrono cross is a mess also), as are the Lunar games, valkyrie profile/star ocean, grandia, wild arms, azure dreams etc, tales of phantasia/eternia.

Some to Avoid: suikoden 1 and 2, unless you played them as a kid and want to revisit them with your little nostalgia blinders on. They're pretty awful.
Legend of Dragoon is mediocre, as is Tales of Destiny and breath of fire.

I like it: gameplay is OK, albeit it can be repetitve and grindy, though the music and grim vibe you get from it, is what makes this game special. Read the manual and basic stuff and dive into it, don't go for guides before completing the game once, doing what you think is best; that way you'll make the replay value worthy.
