This whole culture surrounding game translations where people don't want to step on toes and are afraid to step up to the plate even when the person who has the game listed up hasn't done fucking shit with it for years is dumb. I blame RHDN for further encouraging such a thing with their upload policies and forum dickery.
You never see this with manga or anime/jap live action, those ones they all go in on the same things and then people have the option to choose which one they want to go with for the translation.
Is it just the autism that perpetuates in gaming?

Only currently running stuff. With completed manga, scanlators tend to have the same "if another group is doing it, don't touch it" mentality. I remember back when I did scanlation, my group insisted I get permission from the group who was doing the series before, even though they hadn't touched it in like five years.

Shouldn't be too hard to port the already existing translation into the rom, just need somebody who isn't gonna put it off for a decade+ while hoarding the "rights" to hack the rom for himself like Ghideon did.

It's really sad that translating a game is so hard. By "translating" I mean "hacking the translation into the game". Because otherwise we would be flooded with translations.

Reminder Ghideon was squatting on smt if for years and only shoved it out when a group of joke romhackers announced they were gonna put out the translation themselves with an 80% completion at announcement. He and others like him have gotten a bit too comfortable with their positions, thinking that people will continue to adhere to the unwritten rules of the romhacking community without realizing it's only the oldest members that care about it these days. People don't care who does it anymore, they just want a translation to come out, hell normals don't even care if it's accurate so long as it's in a language they can understand.

That rule was a retarded rule anyway and it's how we end up with shit like the only subgroup doing the original Kamen Rider takes an average of five years an episode with the only competition being some chinks who decided to machine translate it. Its purpose probably was to avoid multiple groups working on the same game, leading to wasted resources.
But add vanity and huge "always unique"-egos to it and it turns into a recipe for drama and booty-booboo.
