Is there anyone on this board that has legitimately beaten this game (not on an emulator using save states)? I knew several people who owned but never completed it either. Passwords don't save your items, so it seems that you are forced to complete it in one sitting.

I've beaten it several times, both SNES and Sega versions. Using passwords makes the game even harder since you dont have a bunch of easier stages to gather items for later

Hell no. Thinking back this would be a great game for the SNES mini...

Yeah me and my bro tried several times over a weekend. We made it to the mid 20s. Some brutally hard Egyption level and we couldn't believe how hard it was and the lack of ammo. We got slaughtered.

Haven't played it much seriously since that day 15 years ago. I'd say its too hard.

We usually got stuck at the sandworms level or just barely made it past and died soon after

I only got to the final level without saves and died because of no resources.
I was the genesis version tho

I beat it back on release. It was fucking hard and took a lot of attempts but i did it.

This was the SNES version i should ad.

This game would probably be perfect if it weren't for the extreme bullet sponge bosses which are just miserable to deal with.

Are you playing the SNES version? There's a hidden flamethrower item that helps against the giant spiders, but don't waste it as it's the only one in the game.

Throwing plates work best on Dr. Tongue's head.

i beat it when i rented it back in whenever the fuck it came out.
>passwords don't save your items
that's easy, you pause game and leave the system on

>>5406579
Yes. If you practice each level using passwords and then start from the beginning single player it's doable.

i got to the spider in the mid/high 30s, if i recall. i think there are 48 levels?

this game is more survival horror than resident evil and silent hill.

I can beat it consistently now. Success in ZAMN is all about conservative play and good awareness of each level. If you know the most efficient way to get to were you need to go safely you will be able to progress just fine.

If you are still struggling try starting using the password "BCDF". It will start you at a bonus level and then dump you into level 1 where you can immediately re-enter that bonus level. You usually need to luck out and find a bazooka or red potion randomly in Level 1 to reach it.

I got to the second form of the final boss once, never going to beat it though

I’ve always had an ultimate fantasy of remarking the controls, ui and splitscreen (toejam and earl-esque) but have never gotten around to :((

Funny enough, I had a less stressful time tossing soda cans from the alcove in the upper right.

48, ignoring the credits and bonus levels.

yes several times, and the rom hacks like the sequel and ultimate zamn

it's funny how the games generally become easier when you have less neighbors to save

Yeah, I beat it all the time. Used passwords, but it was okay. I think Game Genie had codes too.

They made a sequel called Ghoul Patrol that was less popular. I didn't know about it till last year

Couldnt ever pass the sand worms stage. I still remember the password BKYZ. This game was one of my favorites growing up. I got this and Super Metroid for Christmas one year. Good times.

I owned it on Genesis and the first sandworm stage always beat me, I managed to get past it once or twice and never got much farther afterwards, I was always more attracted to exploring the levels and gathering items which can be detrimental to success, you end up using the valuable items on lesser enemies instead of saving them for the boss-type creatures like the giant baby, the sandworms, i would use beast potions to defeat the Frankenstein monster in the first castle level, i would use ghost and beast potions to run through lava-filled special stages, use pandora's boxes to clear out werewolves, i would spend time throwing footballs to the players in the Mars needs cheerleaders level, shoot the giant ants with the bubble gun just because, it's a long, tough game, a lot of fun but hard

>> No.5412889

Yeah, I saw my cousin complete it long long ago. I later found his same copy at my retro game store. (Had his name still on it)

>Sandworm Stage
Same here. I've never figured out how to beat it, and when the sandworms inevitably kill me, starting over from that level is a waste of time because there isn't anywhere near enough ammo in the level to kill a single one. How do you do it?

>> No.5414161

>>5414113
I save all the bazooka ammo for those guys, soda cans also work well, just learn how to lure them out and their hitboxes and it's pretty easy
The real difficulty is keeping the neighbors alive in the stages after

I came close a few times, but never quite pulled it off. I pretty much always failed due to slowly accumulating too many victim deaths. Some of them are really difficult to prevent without a lot of foreknowledge, particularly a few of the werewolf transformations.
