>read interview with one of the programmers
>he mentions how MC Kids was loads of fun to work on and they were really let down when the McDonalds suits snubbed it
>they said it was too hard for young children and it didn't include any advertisements for their products
I've heard of no fun allowed, but...

Yeah I remember that interview.
M.C. Kids is honestly a good game, and dare I say one of the best western platformers I've played on the Famiclone, I had this Mario hack.

>surprised when a big corporation acted like one
They probably wanted it to be like a Happy Meal toy and be some quick, simple casual game for 7 year olds.

That's the problem with licensed games. Micromanagement by pea-brained marketers.

Shit, if MC Kids was a Happy Meal toy it would've been bigger than Chex Quest.

The second one is Amiga right? It looks nice.
But why the fuck do they all look like they fucked the physics and controls?
I know japanese companies often outsourced their licenses to amateur guys, but this wasn't from a japanese company. I'm guessing it was still not made by the same NES team.

This wasn't an arcade port so it's possible they had the original NES source code, but they were probably also given about six weeks to finish. The C64 port seems to follow the original game more closely than the others where the sound and graphics are completely redone.

Also these were all Europe-only including the PC so that's why they have the European name change McDonaldland.

The Amiga version looks like a bad Flash game, which unfortunately is very common with Amiga platformers. I have to agree with that one guy on Lemon64 who said the C64 has aged better than the Amiga.

Oh yeah, the C64 programmer apologized for the slow framerate; he said it was due to the idiot who did the music, he used an SID package that ate like 50% of the CPU.

The music is a bit annoying although it still manages to be pretty catchy while I can't remember anything about the Amiga music at all.

What's with that awful load screen on the Amiga? It looks like something out of DeviantArt.

Welcome to the Amiga. Enjoy your stay.

I mean, it's not bad or anything. A lot slower game than the NES original and goes at a more leisurely pace, although since the C64 is a computer, that's not necessarily a bad thing--computer gaming is supposed to not be as hyperkinetic as console gaming.

The Amiga's PCM sound really lacks a distinctive personality of its own. Like when you hear SID music, you know it's SID music, but Amiga tunes sound nearly indistinguishable from a PC sound card or whatever of the time.

>saw AVGN video about how this is one of the worst pieces of shit ever
>decide to put it on as a joke while my young cousins were over one day
>something we could laugh at and make fun of
>an hour later we're glued to the screen and can't put it down
This game delivers

Played this years before seeing AVGN and played it with a friend for 2 hours straight trying to find all the secrets and stuff. Really fun game, with really good physics and gameplay. If this was a happy meal toy and it only had 5 or 6 levels it would still be amazing.

AVGN never said it was a shit game. He actually gave it credit for being pretty good
