I was playing the Super Butoden games and Buuyuu Retsuden in the mid 90s and the PS1 DBZ games in the late 90s, they're retro yeah.

my friend had super saiyan densetsu for snes. it's really repetitive and not really worth playing but has a few unique quirks i thought were really cool

1. you can save tien, yamcha and chauzu from dying which makes it possible to go through the entire story with a full roster of z fighters
2. if a saiyan character gets below 5% health and then gets healed they'll receive a considerable zenkai usually going up more than one level
3. if you make it to the end with everyone alive, vegeta will go super saiyan and challenge goku and you have to fight him alone

other than that i thought butouden 1 was pretty dope. i also had some thing called "dragon ball goku's story" but for the life of me never figured out how to actually play it

Second one's pretty cool. First one's mostly just a bad visual novel with some poorly done gimmicky "battles" that just get in the way.

>that feeling when not one pc engine game reaches close to a million copies
>all the shovelware super butouden games reach 1 mil a piece

super butoden 2 is pretty good though.
I remember playing a Pc engine game, was kinda cool but not really better than Butoden 2 or Hyper Dimension.

>tfw could never figure out how to play both games
I've tried the games dozens of time throughout my life since I've played it first in 2001/2.

There are guides/FAQs online but I think even those are kind of incomplete.
Something I figured is that you can customize your move pool on the menu screen. You unlock more moves as you play.
What I never figured out is what do the DB count mean. You can get big dragon balls and small dragon balls, and there's a percentage on the completion of that, but I still don't know how to get them or how they affect the game.

I prefer the Goku-kitchen games.

I made it almost to the end of the second one back in 1998 by using save states to pick the correct options, at least until I got to a part where it didn't give any indication I had picked the wrong choice and then save stated and screwed myself

>fight radditz, then fight vegeta, then fight ginyu force, then fight freeza, only this time it's a fighting game, only this time it's an rpg, only this time it's a card based adventure game

No thanks

Yeah, how they dare use the story to make the games.
In Super Saiya Densetsu you can actually change the story as an anon mentioned above, on Super Gokuuden you can also get many different scenarios depending on your choices.
