In my opinion, this is probably one of the best if not the best classic style Castlevania. The graphics are amazing, the music is superb, and it has a lot of cool stages and boss fights and even alternate playable characters. My only problem with it is that it can get ridiculously hard at some points and that will end up deterring a lot of people from finishing it.

SotN isn't a classic style Castlevania anyway.

if I had to pick only one Classicvania to only be able to play ever again, it would probably be III. I really love Rondo and definitely prefer the way the stage progression is done by finding alternate exits rather than picking from a menu, but Rondo also feels really short comparatively and III definitely has more variety with three different partners compared to Rondo only have two characters to play, and one is easy modo.

SoTN is the second worst Castlevania game of all time right behind Super Castlevania Bros

I recommend all of you to play JP version Akumajou Densetsu, it uses VRC6 chip. Sound effects and music sounds beautiful with it:

Is it that bad? So far I've only finished 1st Castlevania, only played like one stage of 4 and it seemed pretty good.

It's my favorite of the series, and one of my favorite games ever made. The difficulty is a lot more manageable if you're willing to exploit the advantages of the various characters, and the Japanese release goes a long way to making the game more accessible.

I usually just stick with Trevor for the entire game though (even if I'm playing the U.S. version). It's more fun and satisfying to me.

this and rondo are easily the best in the series, i actually love how careful you have to be and how planning ahead with the right subweapon pays off. it feels so satisfying to beat

Stay in the middle. Counting from the left, there's a pattern you can use with the second and fourth block to move back and forth and stay safe. The pattern changes about halfway up, but those are still the two safe blocks.

What this guy said, the falling blocks section is pretty easy overall.

Good fucking luck with the triple boss or the merman/crow sections tho.

I feel Grant in the Japan version is too overpowered with his unlimited throwing knives. That's really the only nerf that was needed in the US version.

>> No.5405796

>>5405678
The Japanese/Famicom version is more or less the same game but there are significant differences (sound chip gives the music fuller arrangements, difficulty is different because damage from enemies isn't homogenized in the Japanese version, among other things like >>5405778). The Japanese version and what distinguishes it is just more relevant than most foreign versions of games.

fall control, climbs on any surface, permanently crouching

What if I told you grant was even more ridiculous in US? Yeah that’s right. He doesn’t have an infinite dagger anymore but his little shank is ridiculous if you know how to use it properly, so many bosses can be cheesed with grant’s knife due to how fast it comes out

The stabbing knife is very fast, but the very tiny range (barely two pixels) means you have to risk taking hits to properly abuse it, and Grant's poor defense means you have to be mindful of your hitboxes. It's a fair balance to his high mobility in that he just can't take a hit.

Personally, I would do it so Grant always has the stabbing knife, but also starts every life with a Knife sub-weapon equipped (still costs hearts).
